mixed results, 3rd sleep doc

Post by n0hardmask » Tue May 12, 2015 10:19 am

First, thanks ChicagoGranny for the insight on changing from ADAPT to ASV. I may not be doing that any too soon...

After Sunday night-split sleep study (SS), I doubted that I had slept enough for a decent evaluation, but sleep doc said it was good. Monday afternoon, I got the "debrief" from Doc.

He says my centrals seem to be associated with sleep state changes, thus he doesn't think they warrant treatment currently. Since I (self-titrated) have been using a range of 7.4 to 13, the study started with steady 8, then inched up with obstructive events. ( He only asked if I needed an RX, not a copy of the study/report; didn't leave with either .) His RX will be for APAP w/ range of 8 to 14. I guess time will tell if his theory (blaming leaks and sleep state changes for the centrals) is on- or off-target. For now, my S9 bilevel and S9 ADAPT will continue to be my weapons of choice.

I brought with my SleepWeaver Anew (SW) and the FitLife masks as instructed. I started with the FitLife but soon had leak issues; they tried a Quattro Air (QA), which seemed to do much better in the leak department. He said he'd have their inhouse supplier get me the mask, and I told him I'd rather get it through my local DME bunch (that has tried to be helpful). I felt that his tactics on this issue left a sour taste in my mind. (I don't yet have lots of time using the SleepWeaver FFM, so I'm uncertain how the QA and SW will fare in comparison.

This may be overly picky on my part, but the bedrooms for the SS did not include attached restroom facilities: there were a few sprinkled about that we could use, but even the two labs in Abilene had a small shower, sink and toilet for each room.

Subject change: If Y'all have been noticing the severe weather lately, you'll think I lost my mind. The forecast for Sunday was increasingly stormy, but better for Monday. Sunday PM, after getting royally soaked riding my BMW motorcycle 140+ miles to Ft Worth, I got to watch the DFW news stations tracking tornado-capable storms, serious flooding, etc. The good news is the cycle worked very well, but my judgment was kinda shaky! (I think the closeness of my 2nd back surgery upcoming on 1 June may have swayed my choice of vehicle.

I think if sleep docs were in charge of nuclear weapons things would be very dangerous!
