sleep study and figures generated

Post by Rhodes » Sun Mar 15, 2015 2:46 pm

I have a question that I hope can be answered.

When we have a sleep study, is the 'non during sleep breathing' taken into the overall RDI and sleep apnea figures? The reason I ask is because of my severe anxiety, I tend to breathe very irregularly while awake and it sure effects the AHI's I get using the software from this website and then once I'm asleep virtually all disappear until I awaken. Then it spikes again on the graphs. I would have asked my doctor but he isn't very communicative besides barely speaking English as I mentioned in my last post.
Thanks for any replies in advance ☺

During a regular study, they have you connected to watch your brain wave patterns to see what sleep stages you are in. It is easy to tell from those whether or not you are sleeping. They take that into consideration.

So the figures in my report should be accurate?

Thank You So Much

Relevant to that test. Keep in mind, you are in a strange place, hooked up to a bunch of wires.. So the test is relative to those circumstances. When you are at home, in your own bed, it would not be a big surprise that you react differently and need to adjust.

When you sleep a whole different system takes over your breathing so it has no relationship to when you are awake.

In my most recent sleep study, almost one hour of my in bed time after sleep onset was spent awake. None of the events during that hour were counted in the sleep statistics. Even if you waken and then go back to sleep, any irregularities that occur during those periods won't be counted - only events while actually asleep count.
