Automating Sleepyhead import

Post by lego » Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:42 pm

Is there a way to have Sleepyhead initiate the SD card import when Sleepyhead is started? I'm looking to automate the SD card import.

When the SD card is inserted, Windows Autoplay can launch Sleepyhead using a program called Default Programs Editor. The next step, starting the import, requires a click. Does Sleepyhead have a command line or config file option to look for the SD card at startup?

I looked through the documentation but don't see any mention of there being an auto-import on program startup. You might request such a feature be added on their feature request forum here: http://sourceforge.net/p/sleepyhead/feature-requests/

I only recently found out that there are sd cards and free Sleep Master software available that allow wireless importing of the data without having to unplug the memory card from the cpap machine. I leaned about it here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103235&st=0&sk=t&sd=a I ordered a card for $19 from B&H that will arrive next week and I hope to get it all working then. Basically, it's a wireless sd card that you plug into your cpap machine and then you can import the data directly to your pc from the cpap. Of course, you need to already have a wireless router for the sd card to connect to, but most people do these days for their phones, tablets, laptops, rokus, etc.

Thanks for the tip. That wireless card looks interesting. From the videos it appears that the wireless transfer could benefit from a command line auto import.

I'm trying to figure out what the goal is and why?

I run SleepyHead several times just to relook at results, not import more data. You appear to be attempting to automate 2 clicks which if you really wanted to do, I think you could accomplish via something like http://www.autoitscript.com/

Even if you are using SleepMaster which extracts the data from the SDCard so you don't have to extract it from your CPAP, insert it into your workstation and then reinsert it back into the CPAP. You still have buttons to click unless you leave it running all the time AND it still doesn't import it into SleepyHead for you.

BTW, I turn off Windows Auto play on removable media. I see it as a security risk that is unnecessary.

On SH 0.9.8.1-testing there is an option in File->Preferences->Import->Memory and Startup Options->Import without asking for confirmation(checkbox). Anytime you start SH with this option on SH will look at the last known data location and import it.

Sleep Master Wireless has an automatic option that will allow the data to be uploaded at a given time. While a nice idea, I find it is impractical for me. My hours aren't that set where it is of any benefit.

That was an option I was not aware of, however (just tried it), you still need to click on the Import section to start the process. It doesn't start the import just by starting SleeyHead and of course you still need to have the data out of the CPAP machine either my moving the card, or by using some other means (Sleep Master).

By default, it sets it up at 1pm. that would be after the end of day for most machines (noon). Unless you have your machine setup to reset the day at some other time, this shouldn't matter. The automatic option only works if Sleep Master is left running. Or if you start the program. It doesn't get the data and then exit.

I saw your post on the SleepyHead feature requests board and I hope it gets a response soon. My wireless sd card is on its way across the country and is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. I'll be following up with how well it works.

You can turn off the schedule data dump if you don't want to use it that way... I turn it off and simply launch Sleep Master from my pc whenever I want to look at my data, it the retrieves the data AND will launch SH for you..

I really dig it..

Correction. I just did this remotely (from a workstation away from the house over the net) and see that it is in fact doing the import. It is so fast (no new data) that I didn't see it when trying this on the workstation itself.

So the option does work.
