Help with ASV pressure settings Respironics to Resmed
I'm desperately seeking input as to whether it's possible to convert a recommended pressure of 9 cm for a Respironics machine to EPAP, PS min and PS max settings on my Resmed ASV? And if so, what the equivalent, or even approximate settings might be?
I wouldn't be trying to do this on my own, but after 3 years with my pressures set at 15 EPAP, 5 PS min, and 10 PS, I returned to the sleep clinic where I'd been prescribed my Resmed and had my last PSG, for a titration study - only to be told after the fact that these results are useless to me unless I buy a new Resprionics machine. (A new doctor just purchased the clinic a few months ago, brought in his own DME and changed all the equipment to Respironics - I didn't know about the latter until I arrived for my study. This doctor seems to be more interested in commerce than in helping patients, and I won't be returning).
Since I had to pay for my ASV entirely out-of-pocket, and there's nothing wrong with it, I'm hoping to hear differently. I've tried to research this on my own, but I can't even hazard a guess how as to how much I can lower my settings. I've been so impressed by the knowledge and ingenuity of the people on this forum, that I know if there is anyone who can help me with this, it's someone here!

they're pretty much interchangable, as long as they're not saying you need a programmable back up rate.

You might contact JohnBFisher on this question.
I went the opposite way and it took a little fiddling to get the numbers right. Not an insurmountable problem though.

Re: Help with ASV pressure settings Respironics to Resmed
Absent any other responses about how to move from one to the other, my study was done on a ResMed system and I got the following settings.
EPAP 9.0, MAX 15.0, MIN PS 5.0
That eventually got translated to:
Min EPAP: 9.0
Max EPAP: 15.0
Min Pressure Support: 5.0
Max Pressure Support: 15.0
Max Pressure: 25.0
Perhaps with these numbers, you can work backwards from a Respironics titration to a ResMed titration.

I'll try for a more detailed explanation, even though there's been no response.sleeplessinsanfran wrote:I'm desperately seeking input as to whether it's possible to convert a recommended pressure of 9 cm for a Respironics machine to EPAP, PS min and PS max settings on my Resmed ASV? 9cm pressure is 9cm pressure. the greedy doctor is either mistaken or lying.
what is your rx on the respironics pressure wise?

Re: Help with ASV pressure settings Respironics to Resmed
Using eep 9 ps max 15 ps min 5
Respironics settings would be epap min 9, epap max 9, ps min 5, ps max 15. Max pressure 25.

Re: Help with ASV pressure settings Respironics to Resmed
I wasn't given a rx, the machine was already there waiting for me when I arrived for my post-study follow-up appointment, it was all set up and ready to go, but I was so stunned I didn't even look at it. I had been expecting to meet with the doctor and discuss the study, but he wasn't on the premises, and I was ushered into a room with his DME. The only pressure info he gave me was "9cm." When I questioned him about adjusting the pressures on my Resmed rather than buying a new machine, and asked to speak with the doctor about this, I was told he wasn't available and wouldn't be able to tell me differently. He was really condescending in brushing off my questions, and the push was so strong to buy the machine that I felt like I was on a used car lot, so I left (but not before buying part of the Respironics "kit" he'd set out for me - an Easy Life nasal mask, a pack of nasal cushions, and the most useless chin strap ever - I'm such a sap, not that there's nothing wrong with the Easy Life but I'm a mouth breather).palerider wrote:I'll try for a more detailed explanation, even though there's been no response.sleeplessinsanfran wrote:I'm desperately seeking input as to whether it's possible to convert a recommended pressure of 9 cm for a Respironics machine to EPAP, PS min and PS max settings on my Resmed ASV? This is how it was explained to me for a ResMed ASV
Min Epap + Min PS = Min IP
Max Epap + Max PS =Maxx IP
I'm using the Auto ASV
Min Epap + Min PS = Min IP
Max Epap + Max PS =Maxx IP
I'm using the Auto ASV

Re: Help with ASV pressure settings Respironics to Resmed
It's unanimous then 9=9 (duh, on my part). So I should lower my EPAP to 9, keep my ps min the same and raise my ps max to 15...Thank you.Rtrtrt wrote:Using eep 9 ps max 15 ps min 5

you should get a copy of the prescription from that "diploma mill doctor"sleeplessinsanfran wrote:It's unanimous then 9=9 (duh, on my part). So I should lower my EPAP to 9, keep my ps min the same and raise my ps max to 15...Thank you.Rtrtrt wrote:Using eep 9 ps max 15 ps min 5

I just wish I had Auto ASV on my machine, it would make my sleeping life so much easier.squid13 wrote:This is how it was explained to me for a ResMed ASV

The calculations in your explanation defintely correlate with my current settings (although there isn't one for Max EPAP) - with my EPAP @ 15, min. PS @ 5, my therapy report shows my median IPAP to be 20.4 (Max IPAP @ 24.9)
Though I loathe to admit it, I'm not sure I understand how to come up with min PS in the first place. My brain just isn't what it used to be, I had a central-induced stroke (at least they think it was caused by a central), and since I'm throwing around acronyms - a MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury) and haven't fully recovered yet, so I really appreciate all the help I can get.
