tossing and turning any klonpin

Post by danjfoley » Sat Jan 10, 2015 4:46 pm

I take 1.5 mil of klonpin each night to stop myself from tossing and turning. Been taking that much for about 4 years. Now I find I need 2 mil.. Is this ok to up it a bit now and again? If not I'm keeping my wife up all night.

You are playing a very dangerous game - https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=c ... 20klonopin

Go to doctors, find out why you toss and turn and get a different treatment.

Get doctors' help to wean off klonopin.

Good luck.

Hi Dan -- The usual range of Klonopin (clonazepam) is 0.5-2.0 mg so you would be getting up to the max at 2 mg. It would be smart to talk this over with your doctor.

You may well have another valid sleep disorder along with OSA, only your doctor sounds somewhat ignorant. Ask for a referral to a neurologist with any kind of sleep knowledge because your symptoms sound like night terrors which is well known.

I recall my dreams, and I don't recall night terrors. I do have anxious dreams, but not terror. In fact I often become lucid during my dreams. (not THAT often.. it comes and goes.. but when it happens it's really neat, and when and if it does, all anxiety goes away)

You're describing the symptoms of REM sleep behavior disorder and you're on Klonopin -- have you been been diagnosed with REM sleep behavior disorder? Either way, best to talk with your doctor about the dose.

You wouldn't necessarily remember night 'terror', as you're not awake, more like you'd be if sleepwalking, but the fact you flail around and scream are classic symptoms of 'night terrors' (never mind the dramatic word). And never mind dream content... not terribly relevant. I have some work background with neurology and suggest you find a neurologist. Plus because you've been on meds for a while your symptoms might not manifest perfectly according to research - meds may well be distorting things.

I have REM sleep behavior disorder - currently up to 1mg, started with 0.5mg for about 1 year and it was not working so well with on average of 1 episode a month. So far so good on 1mg. My new doctor in Texas (was in Michigan) said they typically use 2mg for patients.... personally I would not change a thing related to medications without my doctor.

Thanks for bringing up that very important point.
