PB420e and Vantage S8 difference?

Post by alphabettie » Thu Jun 22, 2006 1:53 pm

I have two apaps since I travel and am on the road for work. Is it possible that one apap is better for me than the other? I find that when I use the PB 420e, I not only feel better but my AHI is lower--between 2 and 3. When I use the Vantage, my AIs are about the same, but the hypops make my AHI go to 7 to 10. I used the PB for a week on the road and felt great. I came home and used the vantage for four nights and felt not so peppy or good. Both are set for 11.5 to 17.5 and 11.4 to 17.6. I am not using the vantage because I feel it is cursed--or I am......anyone have any insight?

yes the vantage is definately cursed, your gonna have to send it to me so i can dispose of it properly. i'll pm you my address shortly. just kidding, or maybe not, but if you feel better using one than the other then by all means use the 420e.

I always wanted to know how the PB 420e and Vantage compare. There was a study that was comparing the Auto CPAPs but it was not valid for the BP 420E since some setting were changed. What mask were you using and what mask setting you were using on the Vantage. Do you have software for each machine? What there a difference in peak pressure that the machines were indicating for you? If one machine makes you feel a lttile bit better just keep using it. Are you lucky to have two Auto CPAPs. Some people will not feel any difference between the two.

Yes, there was a difference in peak pressures. The PB said that 17 covered 90% of the apnreas and averaged 15 during the night....the S8 averaged about 13 and covered them with less than 15. I wear the Activa all the time.....so it is set on Activia on the vantage. Yes, I have the software for each machine. The Vantage is rent to own....from DME. My doctor hates apaps but agreed to allow them--he says something about algorithms. However, the 12 setting that he suggested was not working and he gave in and ordered the Vantage. I have been up and down over the past 6 months--first setting of 12 being too low....then some improvement.....then more improvement in the last two months since I have had the PB....it could be coincidence.....I suppose, but thought it was a question that someone might have information to share about.

I found that my 95% pressure changed drastically last night. I don't know that this will stay this way but I changed from the Swift Mask to the Activa Mask last night. The mask sounds louder now but the Press was 9!!!!! Not the usual average of 16.45 (15.2 to 17.2)

I'm still not sure what to think about this. The leak rate was kind've high but so was the Swift on the first night of use. I get better with it as time goes on I guess.

From everything I've heard about PB, Resmed, and Respironics they're all very good machines. Which one works best for YOU, is a different story.

Each company has its own proprietary software to monitor your breathing and use the data to control the PAP. There is no reason to assume that every APAP is going to be equal and produce equal results.
