easy fix for bad or lost velcro

I love my elan sleap weaver. The only problem I have had is that the Velcro on the straps either comes detached, or wears out. I know that most of the time Velcro is filled with lint, and you clean it out. but in my case, even when clean, it looses grip. Or it simply detaches from the headband where it was heat fused.

last night, the Velcro came detached, and I fumbled around finding new headgear. finding a backup headgear. (did not wat to turn on the lights, wife was asleep)

I have tries sewing on replacement pieces, the double stick tape ones..... all with no real satisfaction.

SO... and easy solution, with a side benefit.

I picked up some of the cable straps that are double sided Velcro, and have a slot cut in the end, so you can make a loop. These worked out great.
I pulled the strap through the slot for the loop, and folded it over. It then stuck to the hook side. Then I cut it off so it was not to long. The extra makes a nice way to attach the hose at the top. By using 2 in an X shape, it stays in the middle and not off to one side.

I hope that it holds up. If not, I will stitch it in place, but it is better than my previous attempts.

Actually, I have some snaps for another project, I may use a make snap, that is a post and a snap. It would join them. (not using the snap at all, it is just a way to fix the 2 pieces together.

It looks like you've found a good solution for your problem with that mask.

I've had good luck simply tacking with thread new velcro pads (cut to fit) over the old velcro. I use several stitches of coat thread... it's mostly important to get the corners attached and maybe one small stitch in the center. My last repair lasted over a year. It also seems that on most velcro it's the softer fuzzy side (ie. loop side) that gets frayed while the 'hook' side remains okay. I just replace the fuzzy 'loop' side, never the hook side - at least, that's the case so far.

To view the photos regular size simply right click with your mouse or touchpad button then select 'view image'. That's for MS, not sure what to do with a Mac... should be something similar I suppose.
