12volt adapter

Hi, I have a Philips Remstar AUTO aflex Cpap machine REF 551P. I am hoping to buy a 12volt adapter for it so I can run it from the cigaret lighter on my boat. Could some one point me in the right direction.
I have an adapter which fits very nicely, but am a bit worried about damaging the unit if it's not the correct adapter?
Would any 12 volt adapter, providing it fits. Do the job or do I risk damaging the unit?

The factory DC cable for my 560 comes with two hefty chokes on it. These are the cylinders near the ends of the cable that you find on many computer power cables. Their purpose is to suppress stray AC current, both entering the pump from the power supply, and from leaving the pump and causing issues like radio frequency noise. Both of these can be problems on a boat, although at night with charging circuits quiet and sensitive electronics shut down its not that much off an issue. However, but I'd hate to find my pump got zapped because the the fridge turned on in the middle of the night, or because I left it plugged in while starting the engines, so I paid the $30 for the proper cable.

BTW, when sleeping on the boat my AHI is about half what it is at home, and I'm able to get by without a humidifier. I haven't been able to convince my wife that this is reason enough to move full time onto the boat.
