A Newbie Question

I will be picking up my machine tomorrow. In reviewing this site I found the video on the different machines which helped me makeup my mind on what I wanted. I am still researching but wanted to post a question with the hope the collective experience on this site will save me some time. I am getting the S9 which leads me to the question. It has a connector for a recording oximetry, is there one that works better than others to make sure I am in compliance. I appreciate all of the shared knowledge it is making my transition to better sleep with a APAP/CPAP much easier.

The S9 has proprietary O2 pulse oximetry. You will have to get it from your DME, or perhaps our sponsor.
Also, compliance is how much you use the machine- should be all night, every night. You might be thinking of warranty issues, but only the ResMed pulse ox will work with that machine.

I don't think your insurance will pay for one, it is quite expensive. The machine will show compliance. Most insurances require you use the machine a minimum of 4 hours each night. Of course, you need to use it every time you sleep for as long as you sleep.

If you are interested in oximetry, do a forum search for "CMS-50 oximeter". Most of us use models E or F. There are several threads discussing them and the price is reasonable.
But right now, make sure you get a data capable machine. Go for the S9 Autoset.

Hello....Good Luck to you....You are embarking on quite a new adventure. My husband suffers from sleep apnea and he finally got it right as far as his machine, nasal pips...etc...one of the most important things to consider that people don't even think of asking at the initial stages is that of one's mouth opening at night and all that air escaping....defeats the whole purpose of a breathing machine....he wears the ultimate chin strap for sleep apnea...sleeps with no air escaping and his air pressure has been lowered considerably! He swears by it and cannot sleep without it...ask your doctor who did your sleep study if your mouth dropped open and if so you need a chin strap....check it out on line....only one that works.!

Well, my supplier just called and said they did not have the S( any longer and that i would be getting the F&P Icon. I did a search on the site but there is not much information on them. Should I change suppliers?

The Icon is a fine machine. I would read about it on our sponsor's site (cpap.com). Of course if you have your heart set on the S9 change suppliers.

There is no softwear available for F&P, so I'd insist on the S9 or a PR SYS 1, not being able to see data would be a deal breaker for me.

The F & P Icon does have some data on the LCD screen but very limited and another F & P Icon user here says it doesn't jive with the reports that she gets from doctors office.
I found a source for the software but it is a real PITA to install (makes Encore Pro look like a walk in the park) and then you only get a 30 day trial version and you must get a special code to extend it. Requires doctors RX. F & P does NOT want the software in the hands of the patients here in the US. I hear that in Australia it is a different story.

Only a handful of forum members use this machine so support for it will be limited. I am sure it does its job very well but because of hard to find (and use) software and limited support..if it were me I wouldn't want this machine and I would stay with either ResMed S9 or the Respironics PR S1 because I could get lots of help with it and there is easily available software that is very easy to use.

The DME supplier changed brands because the F & P doesn't cost as much as ResMed. They simply got a better deal.
