The symptom you mention happened to me due to cumulative nasal congestion. Which may not be your problem.
My sympathies for the scary feeling.
It could be one of several intermittent causes, which may not repeat during a "vanilla" sleep study.
It could have a simple explanation... like you possibly having turned your face into the pillow and covered the flow relief holes. If you don't use ResScan to check your flow and pressure time histories, insist on the sleep tech downloading your SD card and interpreting before starting the sleep test.
... or it may be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
I agree with the previous posters that you should try as best as possible to make a thorough list of changes in your condition, any medication used, environmental conditions, also to have your machine tested when you go in tonight.
How long have you been using the latest equipment? Have you checked the air filter? Did your total feeling of subjective sleep rest change after last night, or the night before?
