Welcome to Junior High where JNK taught us to throw eggs and tomatoes at newbies. He's our teacher!

When I first joined the webpage, I was diagnosed with OSA, but I hadn't had my machine yet. I was looking for help, suggestions, support and most of all the feeling that I wasn't the only person with this disease.

I also discovered some wonderfully helpful people, kind, caring and supportive. However, there are a handful of people that are only here to make trouble.

It may be that the only way some of these people feel good about themselves is if they trash other people.

Sometimes I question whether staying around is worth the trash. I don't enjoy this anymore.

Thanks, Marsha. I got clued in to this mess on a thread that JNK hadn't even posted in because the OP and the second post (Ballbuster) seemed entirely disconnected. Well, I have since gone back and read what I think was the original thread that started all this (it's hard to tell at this point), and for the life of me, I can't see where anything was said by JNK that could be taken as offensive. And I really tried to find something, anything, to even slightly justify what's going on, and I can't.

I mean, even if it was a misunderstanding, can't people forgive and just move on? Life is too short for all this mess, holding grudges, and trying to "get even," even when the offense is real, and this one sure doesn't appear to be to me. I used to be that way in life, and sometimes had good reason to, but at my "old" age, I've determined it's just not worth hanging onto that stuff, imagined or real.

(Yes, I realize it's a old man; they didn't have an old lady!!)

EDIT: I know at this juncture it's probably a moot point, but if what I read was the beginning of the problem, JNK was joking about ducking because of tomatoes and such being thrown at suggestions of changing forum format, and then this other person posted what appeared to be angry comments about this forum not letting newbies post things? Is that what this is all about? That can't possibly be what started this, can it? I've been around long enough to have seen some knock-out/drag outs (and unfortunately succumbed to being involved in at least one WAY back before I changed my approach to these things, you know, before I was "old" and decided it was best to let things go.)

Jeff, I know that stuff like this puts a bad taste in your mouth. It certainly does in mine. I hope you'll agree that it's the exception and not the rule, though. That's how I feel, and that's why I'm staying. If you do decide to leave, though -- and I hope you DON'T leave -- please at least come back whenever you have questions, could use some support, etc.

Thanks Pam, for your words of wisdom. I agree. Pain in life is to be expected -- Misery, however, is optional. We can choose to hang onto these things, making them worse, or choose to let go and not take things too seriously/personal.

I understand your feelings, believe me. And a year ago, if I wasn't being helped so much here, there were a few posters that almost chased me off. (JNK wasn't even around then, BTW, so I'm not talking about him ) But I changed my attitude, and stopped letting it get to me. (These things weren't addressed at me anyway, just the general attitude of some posters sometimes.)

In my experience, it's rare to have a forum where everyone is nice as can be all the time. I am fortunate to be a member of only one such forum, a very active, helpful, and supportive thyroid forum. But that's the only one I know like that.

See here's how it works. A newbie shows up. Somebody trashes the newbie. So newbie trashes the place on his way out, because he has nothing more to lose. Get it? Why should he just leave? Why not make a show of it? If it's okay to throw eggs and tomatoes at newbies, surely it's okay for newbies to return fire. Right? I mean, the nice man named JNK who is a forum favorite already made a big fool out of the newbie, so why would the newbie stick around? Why shoudn't he bust some balls on the way out the door instead of walking away in shame?

Oh, I don't know, Pam, the older I get, the more I need to keep my tweezers CLOSE at hand, or else I WILL look like that guy.

You're right.... life is too short and each of us is too imperfect. No one should keep such a vendetta going. Hopefully, it will stop soon.

Unfortunately, yes, that's exactly what happened, Pam. Go figure.

But why? I just don't understand why you'd want to do this, even if it was justified. I'm not joking or being sarcastic, just trying to understand the mindset, I guess. I honestly don't see what he did to you, other than joking around. Nobody even knows who you are, so how can anyone be making a fool out of you? And why couldn't you just leave if you were hurt so badly by this? Why the need to try and get even or get back at someone?

And you didn't trash the place, just made it a little confusing for some of us that came in in the middle of it. I really wish you could have taken the posts in the joking way they were intended, because this place IS extremely helpful, and most posters are extremely supportive and nice.

EDIT: And I'm not trying to mean here, but you mentioned "walking away in shame." If you feel you would be walking away in shame, maybe you now feel you have done something to feel ashamed of? Possibly you realize now that you did overreact? I've seen my share of what I consider (and others did, too) really mean posts, and JNK's was not that.

Pam

EDIT: Redacting what I said previously, because I'm just flat out disgusted with the a lot of people on here right now. (Note that I don't delude myself into thinking anyone actually cares, I'm just stating my reason for editing this post.)
