Update before Doctor's visitg

Post by JPO » Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:45 am

An update before I see my sleep doctor Tuesday. I have been using a BiPap since January, set at 12 and 7 with ramp with I use. I started using an OptiLife in February, which works very well for me. I have to tape my mouth with a virtual mask of tape over my mouth but it is comfortable and it works.

My AHI averages about 5, running from 3 to 6. I feel better when I use the machine, about 98% compliance, but my sleepiness still bothers me and it's apparent that I quickly leveled off with the BiPap. I was using a CPap for two months before the doctor decided that I have Central Apneas. Of course, the software or the machine apparently can't distinguish between H and C, so that's what we will be talking about. There is another machine, the name escapes me, that he said is a possibility to address the Central Apneas. I'll let you know what happens.

As always, I appreciate the people who participate on this forum. It is the best source of information and comfort.

Bi-level ST machines used to be the choice for people who have many centrals or primarily Central Sleep Apnea rather than Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

More recently the Respironics BiPAP Auto SV ("HeartPAP") and the resmed VPAP Adapt SV are for dealing better with centrals. Adaptive Servo Ventilation machines.
ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)
Humidifier: Integrated + Climate Control hose
Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps
3M painters tape over mouth
