Old machine disposal.
Old machine disposal.
Hello, I just got a new machine 2 days ago. My old machine is 12 years old and has 27,122 hours on it. It has several things wrong with it, the worst part is the on/off button is not turning it on and off any more. My husband told me not to turn it off because I may not be able to turn it back on again. The humidifier reservoir does not hold water any more. The heater doesn't work any more either. Is this thing worth donating?

Re: Old machine disposal.
Welcome to the forum.
You haven't mentioned the make or model of machine, but from your description it will take a fair bit of work to get it going properly. It's more than likely going to be a liability for whoever receives it. Much as it grieves me, I think this might be one for the recycle bin.

welcome to the zoo.
regrettably, i find myself in agreement with respirator99. that sounds like a LOT of work to get this in shape, prolly more than it's worth.
let's see if anyone comes in with a correction and option.
good of you to think of donation, though.

It's probably too far gone with what all you said but there is one place to check out.
acbio.com
they will sometimes repair donated broken machines and then they donate them to some place that doles used machines out to the needy.
Now they might also say they aren't interested but it's worth a phone call.

Re: Old machine disposal.
The American Sleep Apnea association accepts donations of used CPAP machines. You should contact them, describe the condition of the machine, and see what they say. If they don't want it, ask them how to dispose of it.
If you're not in the U.S., ask them what the answer would be if you were in the U.S. (or contact an organization in your own country).

Re: Old machine disposal.
I have checked with many places purporting to accept used CPAP machines. All that the internet offers up. I find that most will NOT take them with more than 4000 hours of operation. Mine has 4606 hours of operation. I did find one that would take my ResMed Elite S8 EXCEPT, since it no longer has an SD card, they will NOT take it. They contend that a replacement card is no longer available. This is a pristine operating machine. Any suggestions? It is against my conservative nature to trash it when there are those that have no financial means to obtain one. Any ideas?

Post a topic, describe the machine, completely. Include make, model , run hours, maybe a couple pics, offer to send it to individual for cost of shipping.skydog80 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 30, 2022 10:58 amI have checked with many places purporting to accept used CPAP machines. Free disposal is becoming difficult to accomplish.
It might be easier to donate--and leave the disposal to an organization.
Or donate to a school, for dissection.

In my area, the county sponsors an electronic recycling program twice a year. I save my old stuff in a bin inside the garage and take it for recycling when they have this event.
