Hi everyone,
On Wednesday I received an upgrade for my Bi-level machine, I went from the old ResMed S8 VPAP device to a new ResMed Aircurve 10 S.
I've been on BiPAP for nearly 15 years with great success. I'm having difficulty with this new machine and the settings the technician set it to as of right now. My IPAP and EPAP levels match my old machine, which are IPAP 14, EPAP 7. My issue is the scripted conversion time between the two. It's much too slow and gradual. My natural "at rest" breathing doesn't match it and it's causing events where I actually wake up because I noticed I've stopped breathing.
On my old machine, it was more abrupt and sensitive to trigger my inhale. How can I access the settings to modify this?
I plan to contact my technician who set up my machine on Monday but I need this changed ASAP.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.
Go here and request the clinical/provider manual for your model machine.
https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual
In it you will find how to access the clinical manual for your machine and the settings that can be altered to fix your timing of respiration issues. Look for the trigger and sensitivity settings. I don't know which way to tell you to go with the changes but you can play with them until the machine is more in tune with your timing.

Re: ResMed Aircurve 10 S - IPAP to EPAP Conversion Help
The 10 S comes with "EasyBreathe" technology enabled by default I believe. That disables the rise time (it becomes automatic) and it makes quite a noticeable difference in my experience. For me it makes the rise to prescribed pressure much slower and the flow rate lessens. Rise time is considered a comfort feature for the majority of persons, so you can fiddle with it once you disable EasyBreathe, until you find one that matches your drive to breathe.
As far as the machine sensing an effort to inhale, you can try increasing the trigger sensitivity (by a notch at a time).

Re: ResMed Aircurve 10 S - IPAP to EPAP Conversion Help
Thanks for the help thus far!
I now have the clinical manual and I've adjusted my trigger sensitivity from Medium to High and it made a slight difference. I feel like my issue is the Rise Time. However, I noticed while adjusting the trigger sensitivity that the Rise Time option was set to "Min" and was even greyed out and not selectable. Is there a way to turn the Rise Time completely off?
EDIT: Ok, it sounds like EasyBreathe must be on, so if I disable EasyBreathe, I should be able to turn off the Rise Time, correct?
Thanks

Well, no, you can't turn off rise time, but if you turn easybreathe off, then you can just adjust rise time. Rise time is how long it takes to go from EPAP to IPAP... a more gentle rise time feels more natural, though you can make it very short, which will be like the machine whacking you with air.... perhaps that's what you're used to from your old machine.
Easybreath is basically an automatic rise time.

So a little update for you all
(Background info: My name is Melissa and I'm 28 years old. I am physically disabled and live at home with my parents, my Mom is my caregiver)
Prior to Palerider's last reply, I texted my Mom to come sit me up so I could turn off EasyBreathe. Immediately it made a huge difference, but yep, it was a little too abrupt, like getting "whacked in the face" but I didn't care, I finally got my full IPAP pressure at once. I woke up twice noticing that I could probably bump my trigger sensitivity to max (Very High) for better results. Also I figured one nudge up on the Rise time from Min to 150 would be good to try to get rid of the "whack". I did those two adjustments tonight and it was JUST LIKE how my old S8 VPAP was when I tested it!
It took a full week, but thanks to this forum, I FINALLY have my new machine fully dialed in!
Thank you so much!
