ResMed Climateline Hose - Cleaning

Post by Reuven Gruber » Wed Oct 21, 2015 6:00 am

The ResMed Climateline Hose is 1.9 meters in length. The tube cleaning brush I purchased from CPAP.com is 1.5 meters in length.

For a normal hose this is not a problem because you use the brush from one end of the tube and then use it from the other end thereby covering the entire tube length with overlap

The ResMed Climateline Hose has a right angle fitting on one end which makes it impossible to insert the brush from that end. As a result I can clean only 1.5 meters of a 1.9 meter hose

Any suggestions?

What is in the hose that you are trying to clean. The only thing that flows through that hose is filtered air passing over distilled water.(assuming you are using distilled water).

I am cleaning the hose because ResMed says to clean it. They know a lot about this topic and there is no advantage to ResMed to have me clean the hose if its not necessary
My guess as to why it should be cleaned is that moisture can remain in the hose from the humidification process and that moisture could cause mold or bacteria to grow in the hose

The hose carries high flow filtered are, so doubt that the hose "needs" cleaning. But I don't use water in the chamber.

Maybe every four to six months I'll use dilute Baby Shampoo then multiple water rinses from both directions. Then whip the hose around like a lasso from either or both ends.

I did the same thing with my hose when I was a new patient..... I accidently got too close to my living room wall and left a gouge in the dry wall.. I would not recommend that way to dry out a hose unless you are out doors.
Actually I RARELY wash my hose, maybe if I have had a bad cold or flu to make sure I didn't leave any bugs around
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Yes, the lasso maneuver should ALWAYS be done outside with no one else nearby.

While I wash/rinse my nasal pillows regularly and change air filters periodically, have never cleaned my hose. I do change it once every 8-10 (arbitrary) months as they're super inexpensive. If you need extra, pm me. Happy to send you extras, FOC!

The climateline hose costs $40.00 - I wouldn't call that super inexpensive

One way to do this is to attach 2 pieces of string about the length of the hose to the cleaning brush. One string is attached to the upper end. That string is dropped through the hose. This will allow you to pull the brush all the way to the end of the hose.

The next string is attached to the handle. This will allow you to pull the brush back after it has been fully inserted.

Did you ever notice the when you turn the machine off, it continues to blow air for some time at a lower level? Presumably, this is to dry the hose out.

I looked in the ClimateLineAir manual and the cleaning instructions say to clean it in warm water with mid detergent, rinse and allow to dry. Nothing about cleaning the inside with a brush. You are making it overly complicated.

Nonsense. ResMed (and the other manufacturers) are in business to sell "stuff". The more you have to replace it, the better they like it because it helps their bottom line.

If you're using distilled water in your HH tank and keep your air intake filters clean or replaced at a reasonable schedule, there's absolutely NO LOGICAL REASON to "clean" a hose. The more you disconnect it and introduce room air or run things through it, the more chance of introducing foreign particles into it. With normal use, water vapor molecules are too small to carry anything out of the HH tank to you. In other words, there's nothing in there to clean or remove.

In 10 1/2 years, I've NEVER "cleaned" a hose.......and I'm still using the same two I started with.

Disagree with the above part of your quote. Furthermore, how does occasional cleaning promote the sale of new tubing ?

Wear and tear.
And, without removing the hose and running stuff through it, there's only clean, filtered air being pushed/pulled through it.
Room air isn't filtered and will have particulates in it that can remain in the hose if/when it's removed, "cleaned" and (heaven forbid) dried.

Pure speculation, and the filtered air flow would clean out any such matter. When I first got a CPAP I cleaned the hose weekly for two years. That Respironics hose still looks super, but now unused.

Would enjoy hearing from forum members who think they had to replace the machine's hose because they properly cleaned it.
