Itchy nose

Post by sueann29 » Mon Jul 07, 2014 5:32 pm

Just started with CPAP, am wearing full mask since I breathe thru my mouth off and on thru the night. My biggest problem is how to stop my nose from itching off and on all night, it makes it hard to sleep. Sometimes it starts itching before I have a chance to get to sleep.

I wipe my face everywhere that is beneath the mask with a dry slightly rough cloth just before putting the mask on and it helps me. Of course your mileage may vary

It is normal to feel an itch in an area you can't reach to scratch. I suspect this will get better with time.

I find that with my ffm, the air blows around my nose hair, and then my nose thinks it's itching in various places... if I give it a good trimming/plucking, then there's no itching at all.

It is correct that itchy nose goes away if you can ignore it, but with my FF mask, I have found that if I pull off the hose and connector(valve) I can usually reach in with one of my fingers to rub my nose... depending on where the itch is located. I realize that there may be mask fit issues that don't allow for this, but it's a suggestion for something you might do so you don't have to completely remove the mask.

Odd how an itch comes for no apparent cause, and leaves exactly the same way.
We scratch, clean and rub to no effect, but like the healing beneath a cast, comes and goes of its own accord.

Are you using breath rite strips

I found the glue really needs to be cleaned off or I'd get itchy the next night

No I am not using the breathe rite strips but I have been considering them so it is a good thing to note about the old glue from them making you itch and to wash it off... New update...... I shaved my nose hairs and used a dry wash cloth on my face before putting on the mask as suggested,,,,lo and behold my nose hardly ever itched all night!!! Thanks for all the suggestions, greatly appreciated !!! ☺️

I keep a popsicle stick by my bed. When I get a nasty it, it slides under the mask easily enough to scratch.

well, now you've gone and changed too many things at once

seriously though, enjoy the not so itchy nose! for me, it's the hair blowing around, I'd not have though that would make it feel like the *outside* of my nose was itching, but it does. hehe
