Simplus full-face mask

Post by Bucco » Fri Jun 13, 2014 10:01 am

For a long time I have been using the Mirage Quattro full-face mask. It was okay, although a bit big and heavy, but my biggest complaint with it was that it was pretty rough on the bridge of my nose. From time to time I cruise our host's website looking (hoping) for that better (more comfortable and little or no leaks) full-face mask. Recently I noticed the Simplus full-face mask had ratings of 4.7 (out of 5). I don't know how long this mask has been out, but this was the first time I had noticed it. The reviews are really good (especially for a full-face mask). So I decided to give it a try. I am super pleased with it. Actually, I am surprised how much better it is for me over the Mirage Quattro. It is lighter, simpler to clean, no leaks, but the biggie for me is that it is very gentle on the bridge of my nose. The part of the cushion that touches the bridge of my nose is different that any other full-face mask I have seen - it is sort of springy, but gentle. I am a big fan of mask liners, so in the interest of full disclosure, I will tell you that my comments are based on using the RemZzzs mask liner with the Simplus.

I couple of things I have noticed about the mask. The part of the frame by my forehead, where that top straps attach, has no padding. I was initially concerned it would leave marks on my forehead, but that top piece actually doesn't touch my forehead at all (and I am a side sleeper). I think the trick with this mask, like the Mirage Quattro, is to adjust the top straps as loosely as possible, with the bottom straps holding the mask to my face. But for me, even the bottom straps aren't that tight. Also, the headgear is more substantial with the Simplus, but it is also thicker on the sides than the Mirage Quattro headgear, and so I have marks on my cheeks in the morning, which I didn't have with the Mirage Quattro, although the marks aren't huge. I guess I'll give those Pad-a-cheek things a try.

Earlier I did try the Quattro Air, but I couldn't get it to stop leaking, and I also didn't like where the air vent location was (around the air hose connection). With the Simplus, the air vent is located further up the frame, like the Mirage Quattro.

I guess I sound like a salesman for the maker of the Simplus (which I'm not). I'm just so surprised and pleased with this new mask that I wanted to share my experience with everyone.

Glad you tried a different mask rather than suffer in silence! Your experience is actually like mine, to. Thank you for sharing.

OK, I'll bump this up because I like it too.

So far I've tried the ResMed Ultra Mirage, Mirage Quattro, Quattro FX, Quattro Air, Airfit F10, F&P FlexiFit 432, F&P Simplus, Respironics Fitlife, Respironics Comfort Gel, and probably some others I've forgotten.

For me, the winner is the F&P Simplus coupled with the lighter Quattro Air headgear.

Bottom Line: The Simplus is the most comfortable and has the fewest leaks of any full face mask I've tried, all the stuff Bucco said, and it's cheaper.
