Sorry to hear your husband is having a hard time believing that using CPAP will be a benefit for you.

One of the good things (to me) about Sleep Apnea in comparison to other health issues is that is it very easy to see results.

Take a look at my graphs in this note string:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81012&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15

(feel free to read the whole thing too)

The SpO2 graphs from the overnight pulse oximeter -clearly show- the improvement in blood oxygenation after being on CPAP. Of course, to go along with that, I am now getting more restful sleep with fewer hours in bed. I also don't get up to go to the bathroom as often during the night.

I have a Philips Respironics machine, and I barely hear it. My wife doesn't complain about it either. I don't like noises at night, so I keep a small room fan running to create a consistent, light "white" noise, which helps mask other noises in the house (like refrigerator compressor, water softener during regeneration, etc.).

John

We live too close to a very busy rail corridor; before cpap, my snoring would drown out the trains.
I even woke myself up snoring--not that I was really sleeping, anyhow.
My energy levels have gradually raised with therapy, I am able to do things I never had the energy for;
and my disposition has improved immensely. (I used to be rather cranky)

I agree, some people are tired because they sleep too much but this is not the case for me. I had the doctor give me a copy of the results and I showed them to my husband. To say the least, my husband feels it is a scam, a way for doctors to make money. How do I make him realize this is not a "scam" or a way for the doctor to "make money"?

Also, are the machines loud? My husband wakes up to every sound no matter how big or small. Will this machine cause a problem for him to sleep? If so, any suggestions?

Thanks,
Cathy

Smother him with a pillow in his sleep. If he survives, he'll be a believer. If he doesn't... well, he won't be giving you any more crap about your very REAL condition! Win/win...

Of course, the Sheriff might have an issue with it--for purely statutory reasons, of course.

I didn't believe in sleep apnea either. Argued with my wife for several years, that is, until I ended up in the hospital, almost at the point of death. Now I am a believer. Been on a cpap for 4 years now and my health has returned and stayed that way. We guys can be so stubborn over medical, health issues, avoiding getting help, etc. that is why we die at a disportionate percentage more than women. Must be the testosterone that causes it.

This is what I don't understand about men, well one of the things anyway. A man will be in agony just barely able to move and refuse to go to the doctor and never miss a day of work then he gets a cold and turns into a whining baby that can't do a thing for himself. I hope someone will explain this to me.

Some things have to remain a mystery, Stormy. Some things cannot be explained.
