OT...Changed my avatar
Sorry but I was getting tired of BS and the playing of the proverbial if you don't think as I do you must be a cold-hearted non-christian SOB.
Almost thought of leaving this forum but then I'd miss out on helpful tips and advice most posters on here want to provide.

Re: OT...Changed my avatar
No need to change your avatar Bob, I have been told where and how to go and get there several times over the past three years... but I'm still here . My reasoning is that even though my therapy is going great I put up with the "crap" because I feel the need to "pay it forward" to the newbies and others since this forum is why my therapy is here it is today. There are more good folks here than pains in the asses, but you need to take heed to the good ones and either gloss over or totally ignore the pains in the asses . If you feel the need as I do to pay it forward, then stick it out, you will find that this is a great place to be.Rob108 wrote:Sorry but I was getting tired of BS and the playing of the proverbial if you don't think as I do you must be a cold-hearted non-christian SOB.

Re: OT...Changed my avatar
My first impression of this forum was the friendly, helpful atmosphere.
Later, I discovered that, like all neighborhoods, there is the occasional curmudgeon, unfriendly stranger,
or person who has so much misery he mistakenly believes that sharing it will lighten his own load.
Such is life. I have benefited so much from the help I have received here, I strive to keep a light on.

Me too. I lost count a long time ago. I used to lose sleep over it but now I don't.nanwilson wrote: I have been told where and how to go and get there several times ..
There's a lot of "if you don't think as I do" BS...and not just related to Christianity. It's every where. From how to clean your equipment (or don't clean) to which machine is "best". Wouldn't be surprised if it would encompass which toilet paper is best and how to use it the "best" way.Rob108 wrote:Sorry but I was getting tired of BS and the playing of the proverbial if you don't think as I do you
It used to bother me a LOT. Just to see it in the threads here even if I wasn't knee deep in the middle of.... it was upsetting to me and man o' man, if I was in the middle of it.. I was losing sleep over it.
I actually did leave the forum for about a year. Partly because of the bitchiness and partly because I was burnt out from the technical aspect of what I had been doing. I moved and didn't have internet readily available. I simply took a vacation from the internet too. I could have got internet service a lot sooner than I did. I actually got internet about 6 months after the move and lurked around a little on the forum for about 6 months before posting again when I saw someone drowning with their cpap therapy and just had to throw them a lifeline.
I have now been back here pretty much full time since Feb 2011 but I have still sometimes taken little mini vacations from this forum because I was starting to feel the "pressure" of the bitchiness and the idiots and the fighting.
This forum is sort of like one great big office party. There's always some people in an office party that we won't engage or try to be chummy with...we simply don't like them..don't like what they say or how they act or anything about them. So we avoid them.
That's what I normally try to do here. And it doesn't really matter if my feelings about them are right or wrong or based on fact or just something I "feel"...it's my feelings and for all practical purposes for my my feelings are the only ones that matters. It's my right not to engage someone in the party that I don't care for. What I don't do is try to convert them to think like I do. I learned a long time ago it wouldn't happen and the only person who would get hurt when I tried was me. Now on a rare occasion I do get sucked in but it is pretty rare now. So my stress level remains low most of the time.
This is a cpap help forum and I learned if I stick to just helping people with cpap stuff then I can stay out of trouble (most of the time) and thus avoid going into stress overload or getting my feelings hurt or sitting here wishing I could reach through the computer and slap the crap out of some idiot. It's really hard to do sometimes for a Type A personality too. That's the main reason I stay out of political and religious discussions...they get ugly and really aren't what this forum is supposed to be about.
So don't let a few people at this big office party keep you from engaging with the others of your choosing and having a good time or learning something that you want to learn. They aren't worth it. Life is going to be full of people you wouldn't choose to socialize with in real life and you don't have to do it here if you don't want to.

Thanks Nan...I have received mucho guidance from posters and reading posts. (I go by Rob...I find there are too many Bob's)
Thank you also chunkyfrog. Everytime I see your avatar I think of being at the Rainforest Cafe when a live tree frog that had somehow escaped jumped onto our table and then onto my lovely wife's face. She is now drawn to all matters of frog paraphernalia.

Yes sort of like life, you don't get to pick your neighbours and co-workers or the students in your class. Maturity means sucking it up and learning how to deal with different kinds of people, hard, I know, many never learn that interesting little fact.Rob108 wrote:Sorry but I was getting tired of BS and the playing of the proverbial if you don't think as I do you must be a cold-hearted non-christian SOB.

Thanks pugsy...I am bumbling my way through the ResMed Software you provided a link for. Not being familiar with what data the graphs present and what those graphs actually mean to me in addition to what dials I have control of to affect that data are what I'm trying to wrap my head around now. All I know is CPAP has definitely positively effected my AHI score.
In the few months I've used it I've reduced that number from 108.5 down to consistently under 3

Changing my MIL's was not pleasant for either of us, but I'd give her a big hug afterward.
Just like I would with a baby.

Sad to say I did the same for my mother after she had a stroke. It was actually embarrassing for both of us but I reminded her that she did the same for me (albeit at a much much younger age). I was lucky and shared this duty with my 6 siblings and that actually made it easier for her to accept when we needed to transition her to a nursing home.
