It seems to be troll season again.

Maybe we need a sticky on how to spot trolls? Some of them are pretty sneaky ... they even post quite intelligent comments at times!

I'm just curious. Why do they seem to pick on this forum?

Hard to say, but it might be related to the fact that they are given quite a lot of food here. I see obvious troll threads or "poke my finger in the eye of people who don't share my political beliefs" threads, and they remain at the top of the list for what seems an eternity. You can have 487 people thinking "don't reply, don't reply!" And there seems to be that one person who takes the bait.

I know there is a distinction to be made between the political vs troll threads, but both have the impact of running people off and/or lowering the time/attention given to people who come here for advice re cpap usage. I belong to moderated forums on other topics that just forbid both. Maybe we need a separate section for these folks so everyone else can just focus on cpap?

I think that they are on almost every forum to some degree, but due to the very nature of what this forum does for those who come here searching for help and understanding, it just sets the table for those who think what we deal with each night is silly or just something in our own minds, a joke. Then again, some people are just jackasses and like to mess with people here. Problem is, all the time and energy that is spent (wasted) on these people while they screw around with us could be better spent on helping someone who truly needs help. Not to over state it but for some coming here it is really a life and death struggle... that is why Trolls really suck!!!

You mean like the time it took to generate 1107 views of the "hi cpaptalk.com" thread?

Wow, imagine the person who shows up here looking for help who gets just a few views and replies. Not a good message to send.

Imagine that this conversation is live. These are the people we'd look at and start calmly walking AWAY from.

The internet can be such a strange place.

Well, I was the fool who stupidly responded in the hi cpaptalk.com thread. But in looking at past threads with trolls, I haven't been the only fool.

Anyway, Jan's advice stands in ignoring the trolls. Also, if you see members responding to them, PM them and gently remind them not to do it.

And by the way, we probably should let this thread die since in my opinion, it is indirectly feeding the trolls. I know, I sound like a hypocrite since I am keeping it alive with this post.

Can I take offense at the scorn everyone is heaping in those lovable creatures invented by my Norwegian ancestors ?

Chunky,
I lean towards the "classic" Norwegian version

We could tag the miscreants with the triangular troll crossing sign. http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q= ... 5257824352

The ugly ones are interesting;
Is there an open season? How do you get a license?

They get slow and lethargic in the winter and are easy to catch. There are several in this picture of an unaware skier. 3rd and 4th pictures down. http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=i ... 6781495479

Why would you need government permission to hunt Trolls. Most things are better left out of government control. (Case in point Budgets, printing worthless money, spying on your lawful citizens, The upkeep of a population that can work but won't)

Trolls are covered under the second amendment, under the pest removal clause. Despose of properly, they do stink! Jim

Dying troll in the morning sun. I made it a part of an art forum challenge when we were inundated with trolls.
