First Night With TapPap

Post by jazzer4 » Fri Aug 02, 2013 12:50 pm

Wow, it was so comfortable.
"It" never leaked at all.
But, if your a mouth breather and tape, there is no way to tape your trap "shut".
I put as much tape all around it as I could, but woke up many times, and my mouth was so dry.
I did wear my chin strap, but apparently I'm a big time mouth breather even though I only sleep on my side.

THIS IS A NORMAL NIGHT FOR ME WITH THE WISP, CHIN STRAP AND TAPE.

Sorry, I'm not very good at posting stuff. Just to get this here took me two hours.LOL

I have wondered how much luck someone would have if they were to do a U shaped taping job on the lips and the little plastic piece that sticks out going through the top of the U?

Something like the chin up strips but on a much smaller scale and only on the lips or surrounding area.
Wide strip of tape with a little area cut out so the plastic thingy can stick through the lips.

I feel very good today despite all the wake ups, so tonight I'll experiment with different ways to tape.

To tell you the truth it never occurred to me to consider mouth taping before ordering the TapPap.
Where there's a will there's a way ( I hope) so I'll keep trying to find a way to get it to work.
Plus carbon man already ordered one, Maybe between us we can figure out a way to work it.
Good for him if he got the return insurance just in case.

The return insurance is automatically built in since it is free and back by the manufacturer.
You have it too. There's no need to actually make the insurance selection in this case. It's there by default.
This is the same thing as the SleepWeaver masks and their return insurance.
It's the manufacturer backing the product and not cpap.com having to eat the cost of the return and credit to patient like it is with the other masks where return insurance costs extra.

Airway Management makes a chin strap but I don't know that it is any better than any other chin strap.

At least with the nasal pillows never moving we don't have to wonder what caused the leaks. I do some mouth breathing myself but mine doesn't look nearly as bad as yours and it doesn't wake me up either.
While you didn't spend a horrible amount of time past 24 L/min..just the frequency and the fact that the leaks woke you up mean they need to be reduced.

Thanks pugsy I didn't know that about the sleeper weaver or the tap pap insurance.
That's good information for anyone ordering either of these masks.

I'm a real trooper, so I'll keep trying to resolve my mouth breathing problem, as I love this TapPap.
Surely there must be a way. Elmers glue? just kidding

Did you mouth breathe with prior masks> When I started the Tap Pap I found I had a bit of relearning how to hold my mouth and keep the seal since my lips and jaw were positioned differently. Took me a few days to adjust but my leaks look better now. Maybe you'll adjust too.

I don't have much trouble with leaks, and I don't always keep my mouth closed, which I can attest to due to the occasional drool! I just keep my tongue against the roof of my mouth, which prevents leaks. Don't know how I learned that, but its a handy trick.

Since the lower lip seems to be the guilty party, maybe I'll try half of a Poli-grip strip between my lower lip and the front bar of the Tap Pap.

Yes, I mouth breath with anything I use. Chipmunk cheeks and all.
I wear a mouth guard (on my top teeth) and have for 20 years so i'am used to keeping my tongue behind it on the roof of my mouth. But that has never stopped the mouth leaking.
So far I have not found anything to keep air from escaping my mouth except tape.

Tonight I think I'll just tape in all different configurations around the TapPap and see if I can make it work.

Please see Kudos to our host for my review of the TapPap.
Sorry I should have put it all on the same thread.
