Hot Flashes and CPAP

Post by Betty1964 » Tue Jun 04, 2013 8:01 am

Has anyone found a mask that is comfortable with hot flashes? I have both the Quattro FX mask and the Resmed nasal pillows. When I use the nasal pillows, my nose feels stuffed up and wakes me up in the middle of the night. The Quattro just gets too danged hot... yeah, I am in my fifties and hot flashes are now a lovely part of my night.

What machine are you using?
What is the setting on the humidifier?
Do you have a heated hose option machine?

Please add your equipment to your profile as I have mine (see bottom of my post)....it helps us help you better and faster.
Don't know how?

The nasal congestion with the nasal pillows could be from humidity setting...you may need a little more or a little less added moisture.
If you have a heated hose option machine there are ways to maintain adequate moisture delivery without adding more heat which of course is the last thing you want right now.
I still get a few hot flashes and I am now 61 yrs young. Ugly they are. Especially in the summertime.

Welcome to the forum.

For hot nights, I like the SleepWeaver Elan; others may use the Advance or add a mask liner to their usual setup:

Never had hot flashes myself, but after years of horrible cramps, I think I had probably paid my dues already.
Sometimes the cramps were so sudden and severe, I would instantly cry out. Anywhere. Any place.
What do you do when that happens; explain, or let people think you are having a seizure?

Betty:

I can only use the F-P Oracle 2 mask and when I get episodes that I used to call hot flashes, the mask gets all slippery (a whole body sweat will do that). I just fold it back and wipe with a towel and get back to sleep.

BTW this happens about 25 times each day on a bad day and 15 times on a good one. Its been going one since 2004 and doesn't seem likely to quit any time soon.

Hope yours quits sooner rather than later.

I never had much problem but an older woman told me to take 1 tsp of gin before going to bed. It seemed to work for me. I just bought 1/2 pint and it lasted me the whole time. I even had some left but I think my son finished off the rest.

Hot flushes were a major problem to me when I first started CPAP. I just couldn't use any of the silicone masks without getting into a lather of sweat. After trying so many, I got onto the fabric mask SleapWeaver "Elan". It made the world of difference. I understand what you are going through. The SleepWeaver can be returned within 30 days and your money back if you are not satisfied so is certainly worth a try.

Good luck
