CPAP Location
I was told by the theraphist when I use my Capp machine that it needed to be 1.5 feet below my head. Has anyone else been told the same? Any idea why?
Re: CPAP Location
Lower than mattress is advised to help limit the chance of rain out (condensation in the long hose) from being a problem.
The water won't hurt you but it makes an awful racket which will wake you up for sure.
So it isn't set in stone that the machine just has to be lower than the mattress but by having it lower then gravity helps in moisture that condenses in the hose to run downhill and back into the humidifier instead of making an awful noise or making it to your mask and you get a cold shower or a nose full of water.
My machine is only about 4 inches lower than my mattress...if that.
So if it isn't convenient to have the machine "lower"...it isn't the end of the world and even if rain out does occur there are other ways to help limit it from becoming a problem.
What machine are you using? Some of the newer machines have heated hoses and chances of rain out are very minimal and it doesn't really matter where you put the machine.

Re: CPAP Location
I have my CPAP machine on my night stand beside the bed. It is about two or three inches above the top of the bed, the hose is draped over the bed post about a foot above the night stand & bed. Have not had any rain outs, or water in my hose at all. Hope this helps.

Re: CPAP Location
My pap is about 6inches below my bed but I have my hose clipped on a rubbermaid clip attached to the side of my tall headboard about a foot high . Whenever I go to a motel I always tape my hose up above my head, this also assures me I will not pull my machine off anything. I did experience rainout before doing this and did not like it

Child's plain wooden stool. No cushion.
Just big enough for Autoset, H5i, power brick, candle holder with a scented cotton ball, and a bottle of water.

The foam cushion off the stool; now a cat bed elsewhere in the house.

Re: CPAP Location
If you don't have one of these, you might try it. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-comfort-clean ... p#/2:::::0: Using one of these eliminates the worry of how high or low your machine has to be within limits. It helps to eliminate rainout.

Re: CPAP Location
It sits on my bedside end table, about even with the mattress top, and the hose goes up through a loop of string tied to the wall sconce then down to the mask. Haven't experienced rain-out yet.

Re: CPAP Location
Lower is better, but anything within hose reach will work.
Most important is to be sure you can't pull the machine off the table or turn it over if you snag the hose, turn over in your sleep, etc. If you turn it over, the water may ruin the CPAP machine.
