Very old CPAP machine...

Post by Valpo » Fri May 10, 2013 2:24 pm

My cpap is almost 7 years old. It's still working thank goodness but without insurance, I'm going to have a hard time getting a new one. I know of one place that says they can get you an old one but want the one you have sent in first. Is there any way I can get a used CPAP so I can keep it in reserve?

Keep an eye on this forum. There are a few people who sell used or new ones every once in a while (a few times a month).

Also, check out Second Wind. And, of course, this board's sponsor occasionally runs sales.

Do you need a prescription for second wind? Mine expired and the doctor won't provide a signed replacement until I come in. (God only knows what that'll cost!)

Do you have a physical copy of your prescription? If so does it has an expiration date on it or has someone told you it expired?

What kind of cpap machine are you wanting and how much do you have to spend?
This forum member had a really nice machine that was new... $500 for the whole thing. Very latest model. Zero hour.

Places like Secondwind and our forum hosts do require a copy of the prescription but normally they don't expire and might still work. You would need to check with them regarding the wording of yours.

Craigslist has them listed all the time...you can purchase face to face and check out the unit before you buy.

Second Wind Cpap and Craigslist are good places. I've been looking out of curiosity because unless my AHI is over 15 my insurance will not cover a CPAP. So I've been checking out things as a just in case

+1 for Craig's List. Some time ago, I picked up a under 70 hour PRS1 w/humidified, hose, 2 masks, and a hose for $175 shipped.

Most people selling xPAP machines do not know what they are selling so you will have to email them about model numbers and hours used.

I am so glad I live in Canada. New Machine covered every 5 years 75% covered by Govt. and until I am 65 rest is covered by my disability. I would be so scared to have to go without one with out coverage

There are numerous people who show up here in need of these machines and accessories who have no financial means to purchase them through the normal channels. Your offer could indeed be beneficial to one of them.

However, since you're not a registered member of the forum, nobody can contact you via "Private Message" (PM) to find out how to accept the machine.
If you would take the time to register as a member of the forum, you might be more likely to help someone out with your machine.

Yes, please register.

Your machine could be a godsend to some forum members.

Wherever you buy, even from a local doctor or DME, you need to figure out which machines are good and which are bad. There are some links in my signature line.
