Which ASV is best? Overall

It woke me up once or twice a night for the first 3-4 days but I'm a pretty sound sleeper.

I really didn't notice much difference between ASV and Bi-PAP but of course everyone is different.

that sounds like very good news to me

i do believe that it will not be as difficult for me either given that i fell asleep with my apap rather quickly on my second night

i am just hoping that this machine will save me because on the days that i do get some quality sleep i feel focused and in sync. but usually poor sleep quality follows after which brings me back to feeling like poop

anyways just a few more days until i can get my machine. i am scared but i do have hope in getting myself treated

Res Med S9 Adapt SV-

I have been working with PAP's now for almost 11yrs. In my most recent patient's, 2 being ALS Patient's and one being sever OSA of 127.6 with Centrals present.

The 2 ALS patient's have Rem Star 60 AVAP severe OSA/Central Patient has an ADAPT SV.

Both are awesome units, very compact and really assist patient breathing.60 AVAPS have a Back up Rate that has to be programed,
ADAPT SV is auto. I really like the ADAPT SV due to that. Most of us breath differently and allowing a unit to automatically detect that is very beneficial to long term compliance. The ADAPT SV unit patient just came in for his 1 week Down Load and his AHI is 0.1. There is even a feature he can see what his AHI is really great for those who want to be sure it is working properly. We fitted him with a Res Med Liberty Large mask, Awesome seal, leak was 18.0 percent. The ADAPT SV setting's were EEP6 MIN PS 5 MAX PS 10.
AVAPS have more settings and can really assist with weaker diaphragm's. You really can't go wrong either way. Just keep in mind for PAP therapy Respironics came out with the first ASV unit.

In adjustment to ASV, settings are most important.

learning to breath with the unit is sometimes the hardest, especially when it is designed to breath at rates per minute. Ramping is key and relaxing is most vital to getting use to ASV therapy.

It took me less than a week to determine that the original settings on my ASV wouldn't work. Since I had my data, I discussed the issue with the RT and my doctor, got my script changed to what I've used ever since.

It took me a few more weeks to get used to it... I would wake up in the middle of the night and have a bit of trouble going back to sleep. Since then.... no problem!

I think the time it takes to adjust to ASV depends on how desperate for sleep you are. In my case, I was definitely desperate. Even so, it took a couple months before I simply don't notice the pressure changes and didn't seem to have problems with fighting the unit.

A couple of months seems like a long. I dont know if I will be able to do it

No insurance
trouble getting money
only slept for 1 hour and thirty minutes
i am almost certain secondwind will decline my purchase without my prescription

I am only 22 years old and this is taking a huge toll on my quality of life. Everyday just sucks ESPECIALLY when you are not even sure if you can even get the damn machine

It is like being teased everyday with out having a way out of it
This is so bad and i do not like the thoughts I am getting

First, do you have a friendly Doctor?? Like a GP/family Doctor?? secondwind has a page that provides a prescription blank page that will help any Doctor to fill it out. Note ANY Doctor can write a scrip for this.

IF you were here in Phoenix I know of a clinic where I can get in free and the Doctors are very helpful and almost went that way myself. (my sleep Doctor does not instill all that much trust in me..read my treads..)

Second do you have a tracking number on your order from secondwind?? IF so then it is on its way and hard for them to stop.

Lack of sleep can really depress you..try to relax and hang in there.

I am having some problems with getting use to my ASV machine, part of tonights problems seems to be my hay fever, a little runny nose and coughing with the mask on it really messing me up...

And I am trying to get the settings right and to get used to everything.

Keep a eye on my thread as we are talking about settings and I am using the same machine as well so it should help you as people here are helping me.

From what I have read it is a hard road but one you get set and used to it things get a lot better.

Sure you will. It's not as if the entire time is a complete fight. Rather, it's gradual changes and acceptance of the unit. However, you will probably find that during that time you will occasionally wake up and find you are fighting with your unit. But after that amount of time your body will be pretty much acclimated to the therapy and you won't awaken fighting the unit.

All I'm saying is that you need to give it time. You had a couple nights that were good ... then a couple that were not so good. Don't abandon the therapy just because you had a few that "aren't there yet". Give your body time to adjust.

Contact them to find out how they want it ... It really depends on their policies.

This is from their web site, under "Contact":

*Prescriptions can be emailed to scripts@secondwindcpap.com or faxed 507-412-8249

FAX'ing is easy if you have a copy store around you that has a FAX machine that you can use. Costs a couple of bucks, and you keep the original (of course *smile*). On the other hand, if you have a multipurpose printer, you can scan it and email it as well. Or take it to a copy store and have them scan it and put it on a USB memory key. So several fast choices to get this done *smile*.
