S9 Autoset

Post by murphy22 » Sat Nov 02, 2013 5:14 pm

I have had the S9 Autoset for a week and it wakes me up every night blasting air, i told the resp therapist and sent them the card and was told nothing was wrong with the machine. I had been using a DeVillbas for 6 years and it never woke me up blasting air. My settings are 4-15 but when i look at the reports from my Intellipap it shows ahi of 0.02 and most of the night my pressure is at the lowest level and maybe once a night it goes up to 10. So why is the S9 blasting me at night?

It'll do that - try setting your max and min a little closer - like 6 and 12. I tried this when I first got mine and hated it - like it tries to stop an obstruction and just goes off into never never land. If it spends a lot of time at 12, try setting the min a little higher. Can't let them get the bit in their teeth.

So is this just something S9 does? Do all the newer machines do this? Maybe I should try to get them to give me a different machine. I will try changing the pressure but I have a question about that, I know my reports say it goes up to 10 but what if I need more pressure and I don't get it will that cause me any harm? Probably a stupid question but I don't understand much about how the pressure works.

I think the Autoset may be a little more sensitive to breathing irregularities;
as it has happened a handful of times for me, but never with my Intellipap.
I not only raised my bottom pressure on the Autoset, but lowered my upper limit as well--no more runaways for me.
I don't believe it is a defect; just a little difference in machine logic.
Some people cannot use an apap wide open, at least not the Autoset.

I keep my s9 Autoset range at 10-11cm to avoid runaways. I spend most of my nights between 10-10.6 so I don't see the need to leave it any wider.

Make sure your hose setting it right. It has setting for slimline and normal sized hoses and getting the wrong one might be causing it to misdetect problems.
