Introduction

Post by logicalditz » Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:34 pm

Hi! I am new to all this. I was just recently diagnosed. My first sleep study was about 2 weeks ago and I just had my titration study done (I didn't sleep enough during the first one to add the mask). My "preliminary" AHI was 118. I am hoping that after I get my equipment and start therapy I will have enough energy to do more than exist! My life revolves around my wonderful husband and two puppies.

Oh, forgot to add. I never went into delta or rem sleep in my first study. I felt much better after second when I did reach delta and rem.

Thanks for the welcomes and well wishes!

I am looking forward to more energy!

I have to say that reading about cpap therapy and evil DME's is starting to overwhelm and panic me. So much to take in.

My study was much like yours with similar results.

I absolutely LOVE my cpap machine. After the first night, I've had more energy than the past 20 years.

I hope you find the relief I did and as quickly as I did

Good luck.

Greg

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on getting through your sleep studies. Yes, there is a lot to this. And nature kind of gets in the way a bit because one of the side effects of OSA is a little brain fog. That makes taking this all in and doing initial problem solving a little harder than it needs to be. We all went through that. Once you get started, not only will you get some of that energy back, but you will notice your mind being a little clearer and a little sharper.

The best way to deal with this is to take it one step at a time, and ask a lot of questions.

Thanks guys. I am looking forward to feeling better. I feel like my life is on hold while I wait for the too slow medical gears to turn to the right spot. I wish I knew what questions to ask. I am fairly sure that I will be on the Swift FX nasal pillows since I did so well with them during titration. I think that I will probably get a Fisher & Paykel machine recommended or prescribed, I don't know how they do it. The lady at the sleep center said that their first choice for a cpap is the ResMed but if someone constantly wakes during the night (like I did in BOTH studies) they might chose a Fisher & Paykel, she never said which specific models.

Just make sure to get the specific model and know what they are giving you. It's easier to get the right machine from the beginning than to force a trade. Not everyone has to fight with their provider. Maybe your path will be smooth and they will provide you with a machine that records treatment data up front. Just get the specifics and ask here.
