The guard itself 'may' block the exit or entry of any air if your mouth cracks open.SleepingUgly wrote:Mouth breathing with pillows can run the gamut from allowing all the therapy to escape to repeated awakenings. Even with my jaw up/clenched, I puff air out of my mouth, which wakes me repeatedly. I have to use a Hannibal Lechter style chinstrap to both hold my jaw up and cover my mouth. Even with that, I sometimes leak. It's a great look (NOT) and leaves marks on my face for hours.Chikorita wrote:Opening the mouth should not dislodge the guard or pillows. Tap Pap - will anyone be purchasing this to give it a try?

Re: Tap Pap - will anyone be purchasing this to give it a try?
I was thinking mouth breathing allowing the mouth guard to come out when I do my usual tossing and turning in bed and not so much mouth breathing affecting the nasal pillow placement. If the guard comes out...the nasal pillows will come out.
I don't really know how much mouth breathing I do. My reports sometimes show minimal leaks only and sometimes I have some short leaks around large leak territory that I assume is mouth breathing but I sleep right through most of it so I can't say for sure.
I have woke up with mouth open but when I look at the reports sometimes I don't even see much more than a tiny blip leak. So I have to assume the mouth breathing was very brief or so minimal it didn't impact things all that much.

While your post is true, I think you meant "brief".Pugsy wrote:So I have to assume the mouth breathing was very breath or so minimal it didn't impact things all that much.

If the guard is like other fitted retainers or sports guards etc it shouldn't move when your mouth is open as it attaches to your upper jaw. I didn't say therapy would be unaffected by mouth breathing, just that the pillows should remain in place.

It looks interesting, I wonder what it is like having no swivel at the mask? Although it looked like the short hose may have a swivel where it connects to the regular hose.
Perhaps tape would solve any possible leaks for mouth breathers, but could be a little awkward to tape around the mouth insert...

I'd like to try this--I think it would solve some of the issues I'm having, provided there's some. Way to avoid the wet doggy nose feeling. I gave up in nasal pillows because of that.

I want to point out that return insurance for the TAP PAP is included for FREE with your purchase.
This should make the decision to try it much easier.

No review until after tomorrow night. It didn't arrive today. Shipped USPS and not little brown truck. Hopefully in tomorrow's mail.

I can't see how this will be any good for your teeth. Very strange device to me.

I thought about that, too, but I clench my teeth at night, and I wonder if it might help some with that. My dentist insists there is no bite splint in the world I can use with a CPAP mask (not sure I believe that, but for the time being I am doing without one, to my teeth's detriment).ems wrote:I can't see how this will be any good for your teeth. Re: Tap Pap - will anyone be purchasing this to give it a try?
Well....the Tap Pap is taking the scenic route from Stafford, TX to Houston to SW Missouri by way of Kansas City at 10 AM this morning. So looks like we have to wait a bit longer for me to try it. Darn it. Any other time its a 2 day trip easy.
I had toyed with the idea of getting a little mouth guard anyway.
I showed my husband the Tap Pap and explained how it was supposed to work. He rolled his eyes said he doesn't see how the nasal pillows will stay in my nose with my tossing and turning. Of course I will try extra hard to prove him wrong.
For some reason or other he doesn't have a lot of faith in me keeping my mouth shut....can't imagine why.
I have recently begun to suspect that I might be doing a bit of clenching...even find myself doing it sometimes during the day for some reason and my TMJ is telling me that maybe I shouldn't be doing that.Catnap wrote: I clench my teeth at night, and I wonder if it might help some with that.
