I am sorry, but does no one else find it creepy and a complete invasion of privacy having a wireless modem monitoring our sleeping patterns? I am absolutely outraged. There is a wireless modem connected to my CPAP? Are you kidding?

I have been using a CPAP for 6 years and needed a replacement. My insurance (Harvard Pilgrim) Sleep Health Centers of MA and CareCore (Harvard Pilgrim’s vendor) took four months to get me a new devise. To add insult to injury, it has a freaking antenna, wireless modem and an SD card to insure “compliance”. This is a complete an utter violation of my privacy. The insurance company does not want to shell out any money, so they want to monitor me while I sleep and download the data over a wireless modem? Does no one have any concerns about this? What is the data being used for? Who has access? These are medical files and I am furious. Perhaps an SD card for someone newly diagnosed, but for a replacement device? This is big brother at its worst. I am not the paranoid type, but this has struck a nerve. I am not complying. I will send the thing back and contact file a complaint with the Division of Insurance.

Yeah, jmass, I find it creepy and have wondered who has access to it too. And doing this with a group of people many of whom already have insomnia and anxiety issues!

I'm glad you said something. I was wondering if I was being paranoid too.

I take the modem off and only put it back on about a week before an appointment with my sleep specialist. My data is still being beamed God knows where on its way to Apria, but at least it only happens live for a week once a year.

That said, when I needed to change my titration, the RT was able to talk me through it on the phone; he did it through the modem. Still, I value my privacy over the convenience of not having to go to Apria to have them change it. And now I know how to do it myself, anyway.
