humidifier question

Post by sumguy55 » Sun Aug 05, 2012 10:48 am

I just recently got a new machine (respironic system one auto) and I changed the setting for the humidifier to the system one humidification setting. After I did that I noticed that I am not using any water during the night. Is this normal for this setting or is something not right?

Thanks for your input.

Does anyone know if you can feel warmth on the outside of the cabinet of these machines--like we can on S9 series?

It may be deciding the incoming air is so humid you don't need more moisture and turning off the humidifier. That's what S1 humidification does. Crank up the humidity knob if you want to test it, run it a few minutes, then check and see if the water is warm.

If you think it's cutting off the humidity too soon, you can turn up the knob or turn S1 humidification off. With this set to off, it just heats the water without any sensing of ambient humidity.

Yes, compared to the amount of water that your old machine used it is going to use a lot less water at the new humidification setting, even if you turn the setting up to max. It has sensors for ambient room humidity and will make adjustments in heat based on ambient room humidity and your setting choice. It normally uses a lot less heat and thus a lot less water to maintain humidity.

I used the M series machine for almost 2 years before I got my first PR S1 machine and the amount of water usage was markedly less. So much less that my nasal mucosa was only happy on a setting of 5 with the new machine vs a setting of 3 on the M series machine.

It depends - did you turn it down or off?
