Sounds like an air leak. Have you checked for a hole in your hose?

Inside there is a fan much like a tiny vacuum cleaner blower. its speed will adjust to the pressure, less pressure it will spin faster. That should make the whistle increase in volume or frequency if its causing the problem.

If its a leak, then covering the hose should make the pressure increase which which will increase the volume of the whistle.

If its a very high pitch, then it could be going out of your hearing range. Watching a pets reaction might let you know the sound is still there. Also kids younger than teenager and teenagers that don't listen to music can hear much higher frequencies if you need someone for a second opinion.

If the pressure leak is in the unit it could be something simple. Pressure leaks can come seals going bad in the water tank, or the gasket where the hose tube connects. Look at a online place with spare parts to get an idea of what goes wrong and what might be easy to repair.
