CDC Issues Warning About Nasal Washes

Post by kempo » Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:00 pm

I guess I will start using distilled water. Out of 32 cases, 31 ended in death. I don't like them odds.

To give you perspective, over the past decade where the CDC has looked at it, the 32 cases they had 31 patients died,” Fornof said.

So 3 or so a year ? out of how many people? even if all 31 died at the same time that's 32 cases out of how many doing it? I think you have better odds of being hit by lightning.

Maybe you'd better use distilled, then, especially if you've also been bitten by a shark. The risk is slight, but then, distilled water isn't very expensive, and your sinuses are probably better off without the chlorine anyway.

The article doesn't say that those 32 people got an amoeba up the nose by using tap water in a neti pot, though. Most of them probably acquired the parasite while swimming.

This is old news. 3 or 4 were neti users. The rest are believed to have gotten the parasite from swimming or similar activities.

However, distilled water isn't a bad idea.
