That feeling in my head, will it go away?

Post by danjfoley » Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:32 pm

I'm trying to figure out just what it is. To quantity it.

When i'm really tried, i have a feeling in my head. A buzzing. I don't really know how to describe it. But it's certain a constant that is in my head. When i'm exaughested beyong belief it's worse.

When i sleep TO MUCH.. (as in today).. i still have a bit of that feeling in my head.. but i'm not tired at all.

So what is it? i'm on day 5 of auto bipap, without only really 2 good days (day 1 and last night). With more therapy might i end up not having this feeling in my head?

Each person is different, but a lot of strange things happen when you're getting used to CPAP. Your body makes a lot of changes trying to deal with apnea, and sometimes things are out of kilter until your body adjusts to not having apnea.

Give it some time.

Dan,

Your body has had a long time, perhaps years, to develop coping strategies to deal with you not being able to sleep for more than a minute or two at a time. Now, all the sudden, you are able to sleep again. Your brain doesn't quite know what to do. You essentially are going to have to learn to sleep all over again. This could take a few more days, a few weeks, or even months. In my case, it took 6 months before I could sleep through the night without waking up for a few hours after being in bed 2 to 3 hours.

At only 5 days into therapy, you might still be "paying back your sleep debt". That is, you may have been so deprived of sleep that your body is kind of running on fumes. Some folks even arrange to take off of work the first week or two so they can sleep as much as possible to start getting caught up. Once you are caught up, then you start into the adjustment period. Everyone is different...this could go very quickly, or your body might decide to take months to get back to "normal".

Yes, it will probably go away in a few days to a month. You may go through several adjustment periods as you recover. Also, new CPAP users often have odd sensations in their sinuses for a several days before they adapt.

If it doesn't go away or gets worse, post again and/or call your doc. Please, also post if you figure out what it is.
