18 Month Appointment Today

Post by Slartybartfast » Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:27 pm

Saw my pulmonologist/sleep doc this afternoon for my 18 month appointment. Took him 3 consecutive days' data including oximetry. He asked me how it's going, am I using my machine. I told him it's made an enormous difference in my life. I reminded him I came to him 18 months ago because I had chronic bronchitis that stopped as soon as I got my machine, and that instead of coming down with bronchitis every 6 weeks, like I had in the year prior to seeing him, I haven't even so much as had the sniffles in the last 18 months. He took notes, looked over my last data and asked whether I thought it was the CPAP that made the difference. I said I'm convinced it has, and I'm recommending everyone I meet who is like me to give some thought to having a sleep study done, rather than paddling around on the river DeNial so long as I did.

He smiled and said he's starting to see a fair number of school aged kids coming in to see him. Said that there's some evidence that ADD might be related to sleep disorders, so he's been conducting a lot of non-sleep apnea related sleep studies on children. Interesting association, but he said probably not causative.

Anyway, I'm good to go for another 6 months. Doc said it's great to see someone come in who's on top of their data and has already analyzed it.

Good For you !
It's always great to see someone get acknowledged for their hard work on getting their treatment under control.

You have a really good doc. Not afraid to keep learning and thinking. Sounds like a real pro and interested in working with you.
