The lady had her diagnostic sleep study last night and was told today to schedule a CPAP titration. Sounds like that practice is on the ball (or they don't have enough business).
I would like to give her three important links.
1. cpaptalk.com
2. Something simple and clear about "choose one of these data-capable machines and accept nothing less".
3. Something about navigating the pool of DME sharks.
Links?
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.

You or she need to read the forum- all the links listed at the top of the page.
All DMEs are not "sharks". They are business people and just as you would not buy a car without doing research you should not buy a CPAP machine without doing research. Don't leave the doctor out of the equation- he may write a prescription for a particular machine based on knowledge and experience. This does not mean you should accept anything less than a data capable machine- talk to the doctor when he writes the prescription.
My experience with DMEs (two of them) have been excellent. Both times I received data capable machines. I needed a lot more support from one DME than the other and the tech went beyond the call of duty for me, but I took the time to develop a personal relationship with him and to include plenty of please and thank yous. I did not have to be ingratiating, just respectful as I also expected and received respect.
If you go in with the attitude that they are all sharks I can only conclude you are a shark, too so the rest of my advice is change your smug attitude.

It is true that not ALL are sharks but A LOT of them are. SadlyMary Z wrote:You or she need to read the forum- all the links listed at the top of the page.

Take a look at our site http://www.cpaplibrary.com we have videos about the masks and machines available which show you how to use them. Also we have a mask trial program that some people find useful.
