Erratic and High Respiratory Rate

Post by VikingGnome » Sun Feb 26, 2012 10:10 pm

After viewing my data on SleepyHead I notice that my respiration rate is very erratic and gets very high at times. The average person breaths about 18 times per minute. It appears to average around 16 throughout the night but was as low as 5 and high as 37. Do any of you see this in your data? What does it mean?

If you zoom in or out to get better resolution, you should see that the periods of erratic breathing will cluster to 4 or 5 periods/night. Those are likely periods during which you're in REM sleep. Breathing should smooth out to some extent between the REM periods.

I agree with Slartybartfast. The first big jiggly period per my Zeo, and looking myself at brain waves and other metrics like heart rate, is likely REM and the flat part in mine just after that is Deep sleep, then later more jiggly REM, light sleep, then... etc.

The "whack to 5" in mine during the 1st REM-like period is where I woke up during REM and associated apnea events and recycled the machine (OFF->ON) and immediately fell back to sleep.

I'm on auto mode asv and my rate seems to go high to at least 20. so what does respiratory rate mean?
sometimes when I set BPM to 8-10 I feel tired the next day- I don't know if this means I just have sleep debt and slept well on bpm 10 or the auto mode is better.
but last night I demasked on auto mode and feel foggy with slowed thinking and tired today, miserable. I don't even know how I got this disease. I keep getting vibratory snore and pressure pulse on sleepy head and hypopneas (seems to be shallow breathing)?
my respiratory rate is really erratic also and I demask it seems when there is a pressure spike so maybe I should lower the max ps to 10cm? I tried max ps10 last night with 12bpm TI 1.7 and it was ok I feel better today and didn't demask
I mean isn't that enough to breathe every 5 seconds, I'm not even sure if the auto mode works except the experienced people on this forum say that it's good.

I just happened to see this. SWA17, this is called "hijacking" another person's thread. I am assuming (hoping?) those in this thread are already aware of your situation and your, uh "behavior" on the forum, but trying to sneak into other people's threads still isn't the answer for you.

I wish there was someone that could help you IRL. I just don't think, for whatever reason, you have the capacity to help yourself at this point. Don't you have friends or family that you could turn to, IRL, to help you get help?

Edited to add: My apologies to the OP. Hopefully this thread can (and will) continue on its original course.

Hmmm..."stalking?" I think of it as protecting the OTHER forum members that don't have a clue what they are getting themselves into if/when they take you seriously and try to help you.

Stalking...I've never been accused of that before. Kind of cute.

Again, my apologies to the OP and everyone else in this thread. SWA17 is an extreme situation that warranted a bit of intervention. Hopefully, this will be the end of it, at least in this thread.

I lowered my bpm to 12 and it seemed ok with TI 1.7, have to wait an hour and do some math and see if there is any fog

You HAVE hijacked the thread by horning in with something not in line with the OP's questions. Telling you about it is not 'stalking', it is telling you not to be a thread hog. Start your own if you need to say something.

Julie,

SWA17 is upset with me because several of us have been quite vocal and truthful in SWA17's threads about his/her posts and behavior. When I saw this, I felt it necessary to pipe in here as well. I guess to SWA, *my* behavior is akin to stalking.

But the reality all the way around is that SWA17 posts threads, asks the same questions over and over, never takes advice given, gets upset and starts cursing people, then will do this -- hijack someone else's thread, I guess hoping those of us that have figured him/her out won't see.

My purpose was to let those in THIS thread know so they wouldn't bother with SWA17.

And I feel AWFUL for posting so much in this thread and to the OP and those that responded, I am very sorry for it.

To SWA17 - you've been nailed in this thread so how about you move on and leave these people to discuss the topic for those that can benefit from it?

you should all block this madalot since she will stalk you and destroy your threads. I am trying to add information and learn about erratic respiratory graphs

Maddy - I'm well aware of him, but didn't like his attitude (big surprise so thought I'd chime in... but have no intention of continuing on or anything!

VikingGnome, my graph is much the same as yours. Most of the night it is consistently between 13 and 17. Then there are a few times when it makes wild up/down swings as low as 6 or 7 and as high as 22 or 23. From what I've read, and as others have mentioned, I believe those erratic periods are REM.
