READY TO FEEL BETTER

Post by scorpio1104 » Sun Feb 26, 2012 8:42 pm

Hi, new to all of this - diagnosed with OSA in September 2011. I believe I've been suffering from this since around 1992. Is there any value to knowing how long you've had it? Does it take longer to feel better if you've had it for a long time? I've been on CPAP since October 2011. I do feel some better, but not as much as I would like to. I need to lose 50 lbs, and I was hoping the CPAP therapy would help with that, but nothing so far. However, I'm not GAINING anymore, just no weight loss. I still don't have the energy and motivation to get up and exercise, and plan my meals better, but at least I'm not dragging myself thru each day like I was. I'm just at a loss - I want to keep my expectations realistic, and I know there will have to be some effort on my part, but it would just be so nice to wake up energized and motivated and that just hasn't happened yet.

So your body has been battered and abused since 1992 and it needs to recover. Getting good sleep and adequate O2 helps but it will take time to recover. If you have been malnourished for a few years, a few big meals are not going to make a difference. Same here. Think of the quiet rebuilding and renovation that is going on and be glad.

Also please add your equipment to your profile and people might be able to help you tune in your therapy better.

Please confirm which machine you are using.
THis is what is in your profile, it was discontinued prior to the M Series machine and they came out in 2007.

Instead look at this machine and see if yours look like it.

If you are lucky you machine will have data that you can luck at to see if something needs work.
There is easily obtained software available but we need to know for sure exactly which model you are using.

Hello & Welcome, scorpio1104! Glad you found this forum—SO much useful info and everyone here is so willing to help!
You're lucky to have found this forum as you begin CPAP—took me almost year before I found this place and, with the help of folks here, got my CPAP therapy working as it should. It does take time to get everything tweaked and working at its best, so patience is key as one begins CPAP.

Sounds like you are making progress, so that is good. As you continue diligently with your treatment and confirm that it is indeed therapeutic, it may be helpful to journal details of your sleep to see if a pattern emerges that could give you a clue if there's something you still need to address. Also, this is a good time to bolster your recovery efforts with optimal nutritional support, and possibly even undergo some testing for deficiencies that can affect energy levels, as well as be checked for such medical conditions as thyroid function, diabetes and anemia. It may be that time and treatment alone will suffice for you to continue to see improvements. Best wishes in discerning if and when to delve further.
