Feeling Funky

Post by TommyBwell » Sun Feb 26, 2012 8:29 am

I have been sleeping with my machine for 17 nights now. I have had a couple of bad nights but overall I'm sleeping much better. I have overcome my initial side effects of dry nose, congestion and morning headache but I can't get past the funk. Usually until late afternoon I just feel a little dazed. I figured I wold get past it but so far no luck. Any ideas?

Time...

And while giving it time use that time to fully evaluate your therapy as best you can and evaluate any other possible sleep problems that the machine isn't designed to fix like fragmented sleep, pain, short hours of sleep, meds, general health, insomnia...and a lot more.

What machine are you using and do you know if it has data available to make sure that the therapy part is optimal.?

Please add your equipment to your profile so we can see what you are using..

I figured time was the answer but I was also hoping a couple of weeks in I would be on the other side of it. I updated my info. I have a humidifier but only used it a couple of nights.

Please look at the link in your profile that you have chosen for your machine....does your machine look like that? That model has been discontinued for several years.

Respironics doesn't do much with model names though...there is a new model that looks like the machine in my profile (click on link to see it) and these have PR System One as part of the model name. In the equipment drop down list in your profile...look for groupings starting with PR System One.....

If you do happen to have the PR System One Remstar Plus CPAP with CFlex...that machine offers no useful data beyond how many hours you use the machine.
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... cflex.html
Remove the water tank and turn the machine over and look for a model number that starts with DSxxxx to see for sure which model you have. If it is DS 250 or less you have a basic floor model cpap machine with no data beyond hours of use. Absolutely no way to tell if your therapy is optimal or even if leaks are a potential factor.
New to therapy you might be able to get the DME to give you a full data machine.
Read this blog..about full data machines and what to do when you realize your machine doesn't offer full efficacy data. http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/

There is software available for use with machines that do have full data...see my signature line.

Why is it important? Hmmmm you feel better but not great...while time might be needed, you also may not be having optimal therapy and no way to know without actual data to see if anything needs improvement. If you are having less than optimal therapy for any reason and don't know to fix it....no amount of time is going to help things.

I always felt that if I am going to have to do this mask thing.....I want to make darn sure that at least on paper I am doing the best I can. No way to know without full data.

So let's confirm exactly which machine you have...and go from there.

That was not the correct machine but now it is. I have the built in humidifier but don't use it.

M Series Plus machine...same lack of data. So sorry to bear that news.
The "Plus" as part of the model name in all models means hours of use only data available.
M Series machines are the model that was dispensed immediately prior to the PR System One machine model.

Did you get this machine from a DME or was it from a family friend?

It was my father-in-laws and had 20 hours on it. I could have gotten a new machine for about $200 but they said this was as good as the ones they had.

Well if they were going to give you a PR System One Plus CPAP ...yeah you would have pretty much got the same machine. No sense in paying more money for same thing.

My suggestion would be to go ahead and give things a bit of time. In 2 or 3 months if you still don't feel the improvement that you wish for then revisit the idea of getting a full data machine at some time so you can see for sure that at least the therapy part is optimal.
If you were feeling horrible now...I wouldn't wait on finding a full data machine but since you see some improvement probably won't hurt a thing to give things a bit more time.
Or if you are a data hound and can't stand not knowing...start trying to find a full data machine right now. Sometimes peace of mind is worth the extra cost and extra hassle.

In the meantime..study up on which machines offer useful data and which machines offer only hours of use. The new PR System One machines use a SD card and makes using the software easy. There are full data M Series machines (I have one) but they use a Smart Card and require a special card reader to utilize the software and the only software that can be used is Encore software. Not a deal breaker but a limitation.
