Masks, rainout and Leaks... oh my...

Post by scooter133 » Wed Feb 22, 2012 12:11 am

So I started with. Blue Comfortgel nasal mask. It's okay, I hate the forehead piece and I cant use my Zeo with it.

I got a humidifier attaching net for my resparonics M series 200(ancient unit, yes. Getting new one in summer when DME let's me get a new one)

On pretty much any setting, even off, I get quite a bit of moisture build-up with the comfort gell blue. At times in the morning i'll pull the mask off and get runoff. I've just left the humidifier off for now. It's better but still happens. Room is a tad on the cooler side, though not really cold.
I'm having sinus issues, so doc outfitted me With the Quattro FX FFM. I like it when it does not leak. Allows me to wear my Zeo. I have to use the humidifier with this unit. Setting of 2 seems okay. Though I've seen the videos And blogs about fitting the quatro FX, I cannot for the life of me get it to stop leaking... I can fall asleep okay, though once I start tossing and turning, it leaks like crazy. So much so that if it wakes me up by 2-2:30. I just take it off and go back to bed. Cause I cannot get back to bed with the dang thing leaking.

I've gone back And forth on on the masks. I like th quatro when it Is not leaking on me.

Any suggestions?

With humidifier off and still getting condensation in the mask it is likely more from the moisture in your own exhaled breath that is the culprit. I had this with my nasal pillows and got a barrel cozy which helped some but I don't know if any cozy for your mask.

Use of a heated hose might help keep the air warm enough in the mask to limit condensation.
There are heated hoses that you can buy that will work with your machine or you could make your own with reptile heater cable should you want to try the heated hose thing.

I use the Hybernite 2300 and cpap.com sells them now. I didn't want to make my own.
