Resmed Mirage Liberty Nose Pillows Question

Post by greatunclebill » Tue Feb 21, 2012 6:07 pm

my wife has the resmed mirage liberty which is a mouth mask with nose pillows. it comes with small, medium and large pillows. problem is small pillows are too big and she needs petite pillows. the dme couldn't help. does anybody know of a place that does sell petite nose pillows for this mask? thanks.

she did order a quattro fx full face which she is going to also try to use. she can't use full nasal, but the mirage liberty is something that seems like it would work, so we would still like to get workable pillows.

Both the Liberty and the Innomed Hybrid only offer 3 sizes of nasal pillows. Small being the smallest.
I am unsure if the Innomed Hybrid's small will run any smaller. Perhaps someone who has tried both of these masks could offer a comment about the sizing. Or check with the DME and see if they have a Small nasal pillow for the Innomed Hybrid...if it fits then try the Innomed mask.
I don't know of any other nasal pillow that would work with these masks.

thank you. i'm thinking the sizing is probably industry standard or close to it. there's probably not enough difference to worry about it. i was really wondering if somebody made after-market smaller sizes. looks like probably not.

I've owned and used both the Mirage Liberty and the Quattro FX and have had much better success with the Quattro FX. I liked the idea of the Liberty because the mask portion is so small but had a hard time keeping the seal with the nasal pillows. I just don't think they line up correctly at the angle that they come out of the mask. I tried both medium and large pillows and both would seal for awhile, but would lose their seal during the night. There is no aftermarket manufacturer of the pillows for this mask and as stated, all you have is small, medium or large. As with all masks, results may vary from one person to the next, but for me, the Quattro FX has been the best for both comfort and getting a good seal. Good luck!

the quattro came today so testing starts tonite. so far she liked it in little test runs. sleepyhead will look crazy in the morning. LOL.... her problem with the pillows was the same. it sorta worked in the beginning but increasingly the pillows just wouldn't stay in. she tried all sizes. in the end it may be poor design and have nothing to do with pillw size. thanks for your input.

You're welcome. I'd suggest withh the Quattro FX that you view the videos on fitting it and also read this prior thread viewtopic/t74573/Quattro-FX-leaksproper ... miles.html. Hope it works as well for her as it has for me!

As far as Sleepyhead, if you don't want to capture all of the short mask trials when you're playing around with fitting the mask, you can go into File/Preferences/Import and change the "Ignore Short Sessions" setting so that it will cover however long she does her tests and it won't make your data looks so crazy.

thanks. i know about ignoring short sessions and they were all ignored under 10 minutes i think. mask worked fine, slept all night, AHI 1.52, 95% leaks 8.78, 95% total leaks 29.

I forgot one thing about nasal pillows and the hybrid masks.
Roosters pantyhose trick. You may have seen it already but just thought I would mention it.

Those results sound promising, especially for breaking in a new mask. If you keep playing with the strap tensions and the suggestions for fitting the mask, I'm pretty sure you'll probably be able to reduce the leaks even lower. I'm to the point now where my 95% unintentional leak rate is usually at 2.4 or lower. AND, if you slept all night, that's the most important thing. Congrats!
