LOTS of changes to my numbers & everything

Post by macewa » Mon Feb 20, 2012 1:48 pm

I went in to my DME this a.m. for results of my oxygen test taken while on BiPap last night and she was not happy with it, plus my AHI was 16.02 with OA at 6.84 and CA at 7.92. My pressures were EPAP 10, IPAP 15, She got to see the big bump on my nose from the mask and said that was unacceptable.

I brought in info I collected from SleepyHead re various settings I have have been on to share with her. Pugsy had said something about my numbers and how I went from one low number up to the high number with nothing in between. SO, we have put me on Auto BiPap with EPap of 10 or 13 (I have to check, I think we upped it to 13) and IPAP 22 and from what I understand my pressures will change all night according to what I need. This should be interesting. We also went to the FitLife Full Face Mask. (yea!) She said there were some issues with leaking at the forehead but that the new mask coming out resolves that problem and when she gets the new one, she will change me out. Tonight we are going to try me on 2L of oxygen with the BiPAP to keep my saturations up if needed (we are testing tonight). Tomorrow we will look at the results and decide where to go from there. I also got a new and better hose because last night my nose broke where it connected to the mask and I had to tape it together. Once again I am cautiously optimistic and for the first time in quite some time, looking forward to going to sleep because I don't expect to end up with pain. I had gotten to where I dreaded going to sleep.

From what I have read here, it appears that I am really fortunate to have such a wonderful gal helping me at the DME.

I've lost 16 pounds this month and hope to lose another 12. I am hoping that with the weight loss and also having 100% of my nose to breathe with now instead of 50% something good will happen. I need that good little sleep apnea fairy to come wave her magic wand. LOL

Good luck, macewa. I hope the changes result in significant improvement for you. You do sound lucky with your DME.
Keep us posted, please.

Thanks - I will keep you posted. I'm just hoping that this works. The full face mask happened because she saw my nose this morning. I'm the point who suggested maybe doing the auto BiPap part. Worth a try. I just really want this over (getting my numbers straight) so I can get on with my life. I'm at five months and feel like I'm starting all over again. New sleep study in about 2 more months. I'm not sure why they want me to wait so long after my surgery because I seem to be breathing fine now.

I am over here in your cheering section rooting you on.

Keep us posted on how it goes. Here's hoping that auto mode doesn't bug you too much so you can get a good idea where the pressure really wants to go. It's hard when you have to try a new mask and new pressure at the same time. Try not to get discouraged because this really is sort of like starting all over.

Pugsy, My other masks were so uncomfortable causing me pain every day that this should be so much better. I tried it on there with the air blowing and compared to the others it was a dream. It seems to me if the pressures change with what I need, in the long haul it would feel better, but I haven't done it yet so don't know.

I have a very positive attitude and am so thankful that I have someone trying to help me.
I am also so very thankful for this group because I have no one else and you all keep me going.
