Hi all
My PR System 1 was again starting to turn itself off and on during the night. Have sent it back under warranty so hopefully it will get fixed.
As it was under warranty I got a loan S9 autoset while it is away. Used it for 3 nights so far and seems great. AHI seems a little lower too (from 0.8 to 0.1). I'm wonder if this is just difference in measurement or if I'm getting better therapy?
Having said that, passages are feeling a little dry. DME said they set the humidifier for the equivalent of "3" on the PR System 1, but it may not be quite enough. I have a climate line hose and the system is currently set at 27C. I can play with it of course, but was wondering if anyone who has used both machines knows what might be an equivalent setting?
P.S. Thank goodness for Sleepyhead. Saved me heaps of wasted effort in having to find, install and become familar with new software. Thanks Mark.

Re: Temporary use of S9
Not many people have had a chance to use both the PR S1 machine and the new S9 machine.
I have but the S9 I used didn't have the climateline hose...and it is winter here and summer where you are and I trialed the S9 in December.
You don't have much more room to increase the temp which in auto mode would add a little more moisture and a setting of 3 on the PR S1 in the new fancy mode is not a huge amount of moisture anyway.
You might think about changing the humidifier to manual and do a setting of 4.5...I used a setting of 4 on my PR S1 and when I tried the S9 that I experimented with (no climate line hose) I used 4.5 and it was very comfortable and I like (need) a good bit of moisture.
The minor difference in AHI between the 2 machines....could be just because of the different algorithms.
ResMed's definitions are a bit different and they do respond a bit differently than the Respironics machines.
There is no way to tell for sure (that I am aware of) if that much of a difference is "better" therapy or just the way that ResMed reports things. Unless you happen to feel markedly better with the ResMed machine, then that would be a strong indicator of better therapy.

Re: Temporary use of S9
Thanks Pugsy.
I don't feel any better or worse.
Seems a shame to waste the climate line while I have it. I'll have a play. It is quite hot and humid here at the moment, might need to be a little higher to compensate. Makes me appreciate the PR S1's auto humidity function a little more.

Re: Temporary use of S9
I have a stand alone heated hose and when I used the VPAP in December that is what I used since the hose that came with the ResMed machine was a standard performance hose. So I just set the humidifier to 4.5 and I had the moisture I needed without rain out. Rain out was why I bought the heated hoe. I got tired of snorting water up my nose and the hose growling like a bear when it had water in it.
One of the best things that I have bought was that heated hose. It has totally eliminated my rain out issues and I don't have to put a heavy coat on the hose which made moving it a problem sometimes..
You can fiddle with the temp a little more to see if it helps with the dryness.
I have anew VPAP auto coming tomorrow..no climate line hose. Not sure if I will bother with one just yet but I expect I will eventually when I can find a good deal on EBay for one. I gotta try it.
Back when I changed from the Bipap auto to the VPAP auto....I liked both of them pretty equally. Both gave me a very comfortable therapy. I had zero issues with the VPAP and actually really liked some of the features on it that I didn't have on the BiPap. So now I will have a VPAP of my own to play with.
I also ordered the CMD 50 D Plus oximeter tonight...more toys to play with.
Going to try to see if my morning headaches are carbon dioxide or simply related to crappy cervical spine.
