Forgot to make my card writable again

Post by ohwhatanight » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:09 am

Pardon my newbie-ness. I just got my first CPAP 3 nights ago so I am still learning and making mistakes. Yesterday I learned about the SleepyHead software from this forum, so I popped my SD card out to see the data. Way cool!!! I took the advice to write-protect the card, but forgot to undo that when I put it back in my machine. So this morning - no new data for last night on the card. (Yes, I am a bit obsessed about the whole thing right now - later down the road I don't imagine one night of missed data will bother me much.)

The LED screen on my machine still shows the correct compliance info (number of nights used, number of hours) but it doesn't normally display anything else like AHI, etc. though the manual shows that info is in there (it's just not set to show it for some odd reason.) It has a modem to phone in data.

So - my questions are: Is my data from last night sill stored in the machine somewhere? Will it still phone in all of last night's data? And - to feed my inner nerd - is there a way to get it write last night's stuff to the SD card so I can read it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

As I understand it, the data is still there and will write to card once it is re-inserted (write-protect off)...happens right away.

No problem...and if you run into other technical issues, Pugsy is the go to Gal.

And while we're here...discussing your cpap therapy.

How's it going?

Jamis is correct. The data from last night is stored on the machine (with one exception) and will be written to the card when inserted with the write protect feature off.

There is actually quite a bit of detailed data stored on the machine for many days before it gets overwritten.
The wave form or flow rate is not stored on the machine but all the other data is stored on the machine.
So only this one aspect of data will be missing and it isn't that big of a deal. Everything needed to satisfy compliance is stored on the machine along with the other AHI information and leaks.
This pertains to the PR S1 machines.

ResMed machines are totally different and a lot more detailed data gets omitted if the card is not in place during the night.

Jamis -

Thanks for asking!

So far I have been waking up even more exhausted than usual but I think it is from stressing too much about all this. The first two nights I didn't get to sleep until 3:30 am. The second night I fiddled with the straps too much and made my mask way too tight. I discovered that the next morning when my face had huge creases from the mask! So, I watched the videos on how to fit it properly and that helped. I also thought the second night that I wasn't getting any air pressure because I didn't feel it as much as I did the first night. Could have been because my mask was too tight - or just over-active imagination! The mask, air pressure, and hose don't bother me as much as I thought they would though. It's been really nice having the humidifier and not waking up to a stopped-up nose and super dry mouth every morning.

Finding out about the SleepyHead software helped ease some of my anxiety - seeing the data and that my pressure was just as prescribed helped. Also seeing that my AHI was only about 1.3 with the CPAP made me feel a lot happier.

I have to say, so far this is still far from fun. I hope it gets a lot better soon and I get some decent sleep. I see the sleep doctor on Tuesday for a follow-up so hopefully she can answer any questions I have. I am a bit concerned that just treating the apnea still won't mean I will really sleep, since I showed on the sleep study that I had more non-respiratory arousals that respiratory ones. I also just don't get below Stage N2 of sleep (less than .5% of my total sleep time) and don't think I have for most of my life (I am in my 50s now.) I've always been an incredibly light sleeper. I've been taking Ambien CR 12.5 for over 5 years (not good) and still only average about 3-4 hours of very light sleep a night.

Ohwhatanight,
Ya, it's a bit of a hassle sometimes. Sorry you aren't waking up all perky. But it does sound like your AHI numbers are good.

Cpap for someone who already had insomnia issues is especially difficult. Check out Robysue's blog. She has some good info in insomnia and specifically cpap insomnia.

Hang in there and voice your difficulties. Lots of help available here.
Take care,
Jamis
