Hello Everyone...
A bit relieving to find there's a community for everything... including a sleep apnea support group like this.
I need advice. I need a cpap machine, and I was wondering if you all had any advice as to where I could purchase one without a prescription.
I recently lost my insurance coverage, but my sleep apnea doesn't seem to care. I know, how inconsiderate, right? Go figure.
I'd like to stick to a REMstar system one automatic.
Also, I was wondering if there were canadian sites that are trustworthy and fit the bill?
Kind of freaks me out. I feel like I'm loosing my memory with everyday that I don't have it. But maybe that's just the onset of paranoia from the apnea. LOL, sorta.
Thanks.
Winston W.

Re: New Member - Need Advice... Where do I Go?
Here in the US prescriptions are required from the online sellers so people without a prescription are pretty much forced to use the secondary market like Craigslist.
I don't know how online purchases are handled in Canada with the RX thing. Do you have a friend that has a RX that you could "borrow"? The PR System One Auto CPAP with AFlex can be purchased from cpap.com for $619 which includes the humidifier and other standard accessories.
Secondwindcpap.com has some used and new open box machines for a little less than cpap.com but not much less. Again I believe they require a RX also.
Sometimes forum members here have machines they would sell but I haven't seen any System One machines lately.
Forum member NanWilson in is Canada and she has commented about a Canadian supplier online that she has had good luck getting mask supplies from.

Morning
As Pugsy said....the Canadian site is clinicalsleep.com, they are in Vancouver. You have to have an rx to buy a machine but not for masks and supplies. I have purchased several items from them, as a matter of fact I need some filters, so need to give them an email. For a machine try Craigslist or Kijiji, (dont need an rx) or Secondwind...do need an rx. You can get an rx from your regular doctor or dentist ...or as Pugsy said if you know someone with an rx..borrow it .
Good luck
Nan
Edited to say...which province do you live in..I know some provinces will pay for one or at least partially pay for one. If you are here in Alberta..I feel your pain...funny isn t it, the richest province in the country and our healthcare sucks

Re: New Member - Need Advice... Where do I Go?
Based on the way you ask the question, you have been using CPAP and you machine died or it was a rental and without your insurance you cannot afford to continue the rental.
Your doctor should be able to write a prescription for you, hopefully without an office visit. They just need to check your records to see that you are a continuing CPAP user. This shouldn't need a new sleep study, etc.

By the way... Just One more question for you kind folks.
Are there any online stores that I should stay away from?? As in bad experiences with purchases or returns or what have you.
Thanks!
