They'll tell you to go home and take a pill and prepare to meet your maker. That's for all us that are older than dirt.

Hi,guest21 wrote:HOW WILL WE RUN OUR CPAP MACHINES WHEN THERE'S NO MORE OIL!?
Pundits have predicted that we would be out of oil in 20 years every since the 1880s when they had the whale oil crisis. Funny thing is that the amount of proven reserves has increased decade over decade every since that time. We are currently at the highest levels of proven oil reserves in human history. There is enough oil sands to run your CPAP, and the rest of North America for decades, and enough natural gas for 100 years. Factor in coal, wind, hydro, and nuclear, and there will be no electrical power shortages in your lifetime due to lack of raw materials.
Even if the space aliens do come and steal all of our oil, there is still solar energy. You can put up a fairly modest size solar panel that would charge a battery, and you can run your CPAP off of the battery. RV people charge their batteries like this all the time, so it isn't even cutting edge or fringe any more.

Re: HOW
You do what I do. I got tired of the big money industry and got a few hamsters and hooked their wheels up to a fan. It turns out that snoring tends to upset the little critters and they run like mad but one wasn't enough for the pressure I needed so I've got 4 wheels. I've got more than 4 hamsters since I need backups incase they get tired. I started with 2 but I've lost count now. This solution doesn't need more than a few drops of oil a year and its renewable.
I am a bit concerned on how they will make replacement masks.

Re: HOW
Good question. Fact is, you won't be able to power it without oil, at least not indefinitely. Solar panels, batteries and even the masks and machines themselves require OIL to make. None of those things last forever and need to be replaced eventually and if there's no oil that will probably be impossible. Anyone who thinks there's plentiful oil left is delusional. If you're under 50, chances are high you'll see the end of oil in your lifetime. The younger you are today, the higher the chance. Just because people have been predicting the end of oil for a long time doesn't make it an infinite resource. There have been no major oil discoveries in decades, and rumor has it the Saudis have been overestimating what is left in Ghawar. It can't last forever, the way we consume it like mad. At any rate, what is left is harder to extract and refine so it will get more and more expensive (and so will everything made with it, transported with it etc) and start pricing poorer people out before it ends altogether. So I guess someone better come up with a cure for sleep apnea, besides a hole in the throat, because that's probably what we'd have to go back to without oil.

Re: HOW
Nobody, if you think we will run out of oil in our lifetime, you had better move to Alberta.....we will share our oil with you. The way the scientists of the world are working to find more efficient and less pollutive alternatives to oil, we will end up tapering off our reliance on it.....so that it will last past our lifetime, as we wont need as much of it.

Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
Re: HOW
The reality is far more grim than you realize, nanwilson. The oil in Alberta is in sand. It is expensive to extract and refine and it can't last forever. There is no alternative to oil that could come anywhere near sustaining our large population and posh lifestyle... all based on oil. Our lifestyle will have to change dramatically, and it won't be comfortable as it is now. Our population will have to drop too, if we hope to sustain our species after the oil runs out. I guess if you don't want to believe any of this it's just as well since there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it anyway. Things are going to go on same as always right up until the last moment, it's the way people are, so you might as well live it up while you can.

Re: HOW
Albertas oil is in sand......if that is the case as you state.....why are there oil pumpers all over the province doing their job......same in Saskatchewan and B.C. Fort McMurray oil sands are not the only way we get oil, you've been reading the adverse propaganda that has been published by the opponents of the oil pipeline that they are trying to establish from Alberta to Texas.nobody wrote:The reality is far more grim than you realize, nanwilson. Re: HOW
Bad pipeline.
WHEN it leaks it will destroy the Oglala aquifer and they (whoever THEY are)
can sell us WATER.

It is good you add the qualifier "due to lack of raw materials". Without it I would say there is a significant chance we will see electrical power shortages due to government actions.
