I am due for a new machine shortly. I am using my backup machine since my main one crashed on a month long holiday. Luckily I was able to rent one for the duration of my holiday. I was using a Respironics AutoSet with A-Flex but it needs $515 worth of repairs so thats not going to happen. The machine is almost 5 years old, so it is time anyway. I have narrowed my choices down to 3 and need opinions on which one is best. I have had Resmed or Respironics for the last 10 years. I need an autopap with a heated humidifier. They are more than double the cost in Canada than the USA, so I need to get this right. My insurance allows me 1 machine every 5 years, so no second chances. The choices I am considering are:
1. Resmed S9 Autoset
2. Resmed S9 Escape Auto
3. PR System One ?
My backup machine that I will survive on until my insurance kicks in is a Resmed AutoSet Spirit with a heated humidifier. I know everyone has their favorite but any info you can give me on my 3 choices would be extremely helpful. Thank you for your time.
New Machine
Re: New Machine
If you want full data APAP....disregard the S9 Escape Auto because it only offers overall AHI and pressure and that is it.
You are already familiar with the S9 Autoset ....great machine with full data and software available.
In the Respironics line...the PR System One Remstar Auto Cpap with AFlex.
great machine and full data and software available.
This one..https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -flex.html
Don't get it confused with the PR System One Auto IQ...that one only has APAP mode for 30 days then it becomes a straight cpap machine.
Don't know your costs in Canada but here in the US the Respironics machine is much less and it does a great job. I have one and very happy with it.

Re: New Machine
Scratch that ESCAPE model off your list.... it is a data-less machine. The other two are very good machines. Look at this chart comparing machines on our host site: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-compare-chart ... sting-CPAP

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: New Machine
S9 AutoSet or PRS1 Auto. It's a tossup as to which is better.
S9 AutoSet is enormously better than S9 Escape Auto.
PRS1 Auto is better than AutoIQ.
Plan on buying at the optional dishwashable tank if you buy the ResMed. You may have to buy it out of pocket.

Why be dependent on either the government or insurance? You can get a slightly used ResMed S8 for $175 at 2nd Hand CPAP. Add in $70 for the heated humidifier. If you need APAP, they have the S8 AutoSet for $299. I am sure that everyone thinks differently, but in my book, it is worth a few hundred dollars to avoid the hassles dealing with an insurance company or in having to beg someone else for help.

Re: New Machine
S8's require a proprietary card and card reader to get any data.... and the card readers are next to impossible to find/buy anymore. The newer machines are a much better way to go if one can afford them or if insurance will cover them. There are less expensive new machines that are excellent such as my Intellipap Auto Adjust.
