Understanding Sleepyhead Data?

Post by brock5ga » Wed Feb 15, 2012 5:58 am

I downloaded Sleepyhead last weekend after seeing it in some posts and downloaded the info from my card. It gives me a lot of neat charts, graphs, etc. However, this information is useless unless you know what it means. I can read and interpret and automotive labscope waveform, but all I can get out of this is blah, blah, blah. I'm sure it's probably been covered hundreds of times, but is there a thread that covers definitions of terms and interpretation of the charts and waveforms in Sleepyhead? I am going back next week for my one month visit and taking the machine. I have gathered that I need to get a copy of my prescription and my sleep study then, but is there anything else that may be helpful in knowing, or asking at that time? Don't know what my AHI is, though I was told I averaged 29 events/hr. I assume that is it. The only stupid questions are the ones left unasked, so please help me lighten my ignorance.

Idiot me just saw the link to the CPAP definitions in the popular topics thing above my post after hitting submit. I'll look through that tonight. Still request help interpreting data once I know what the terms mean. Thanks

It would be nice if a descriptive video could be made to walk us through.

Oh yeah, that's what i'm talking about.....a video tutorial. How about some video competition here for those super techie pallets here! Criteria could be information and humor combined....I see a great new thread here users! Game on!!!

I lack the technical skills to do a video tutorial. Sorry but I haven't the foggiest idea where to start.
Some one else would need to do a video. I don't even want to go there.

New users to SleepyHead should read the Glossary of terms so that they have a basic understanding of the terms seen in the reports. Reading this and becoming familiar with the terminology is a necessary step in the education process.
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... r_Glossary

The user guide tells how to install http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/s ... sers_Guide

I will work on composing a short (oxymoron because I can't compose anything except novels) cheat sheet for navigating around in SleepyHead along with taking in the questions that have come up in the SleepyHead tutorial under construction thread.

Whatever I do will be based on my own thoughts and my thoughts aren't the gospel. They are just my thoughts. I would prefer to explain the mechanics of the data and let others draw their own conclusions once they are educated. People learn better that way and it sticks with them better.

I have to be in the frame of mind to compose....it is hard for me...not something that comes easily.
I do better at answering specific questions which is why I would ask that people jot down what they don't understand in the SleepyHead tutorial under construction thread. Or heck for right now...take the time to read what has been asked already because there is a lot of information there.
