PLM helped by using BIPAP ??

Post by wildman 2 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 7:49 am

Friends,
According to my sleep study, the doctor thinks that my centrals are caused by my PLM disorder. I have been on CPAP fpor 3 months now and my AHI's are running 10-18 each night. I know that one of the choices is to put me on a med to reduce them. I don't want to go this route because I'm already on enough meds. because I fight depression. Does it make sense to ask for a trial on Bipap first? My ultimate goal is to get to a good level of sleep to help me fight the depression and then hopefully reduce the meds. I do understand that the PLM might be caused by the Weellbutrin, or the Cymbalta. I see the DR. this Thursday.
Your help as always is greatly appreciated.

I'd start w/wanting a copy of the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs from my sleep study and my titration study and then I'd want to see a full download printout from your Pro to check for my Leak rate or other causes of the high AHI. It may be that you need a pressure adjustment.

I don't think it is unreasonable to want to thoroughly check out other possible causes for the PLMs and AHI as well as the "centrals" before jumping on the PLM medication bandwagon.

I might also want to try a loaner auto PAP for 30 days set w/a somewhat limited pressure range and then study its data as well. I'd base the pressure range on a indications from a combo of my titration study pressure AND the accumulated data from the sleep study, titration study and 3 months of CPAP use.

You are the one who endures the benefits or consequences of this PAP therapy or of medication results, etc. so it is only reasonable that you understand your doctor's reasoning and he respects your reasoning and works w/you to come to a mutual agreement on treatment that is acceptable to you.
