Too much too soon?
Okay, so I am a complete newbie. Only been on my S9 Autoset for a week. The first 2 nights were okay, they next 2 I only slept 1-2 hours, but I had taken away the 45 minute ramp time that I had used the first 2 nights. So, I put the ramp time back in and slept pretty well but the Resmed reports said I had quite a few events. That went on for 2 nights and I thought, wonder what it would be like if I bumped the pressure a little. Last night, I bumped it from 8 to 8.4, and AHI dropped from 2. something to .7 and 2/3rds of the event were gone. My sweet sister, who is a sleep tech down south, was actually scared for me that I had the capability to make these changes and cautioned me not to make any others for some time. She said, my body, has not yet adapted to this new found oxygen supply and needs time to adjust. Is she right, or just a worrisome, and thoughtful, sister? Thanks

Re: Too much too soon?
As long as your changes are very little, and you allow several days between changes, it looks like you are off to a great start.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.

What chunkyfrog said - tiny changes with time to adjust in between. As long as you keep an eye on all your stats - you'll do great!
FYI - when my neuro realised I not only looked my stats, but understood when they meant - she gave me her blessing to mess with my settings - same rules.
You're doing AWESOME for a newbie - gotta love those of us here who take control of our own health and succeed so amazingly well!
Cheers,

Re: Too much too soon?
It took me months to even think about taking my therapy into my own hands. If your AHI is dialed down below 2 and you feel better, even your doctor can't complain because your improved data will support your operating methods. Slow and steady is the right way, just as chunkyfrog and xenablue have suggested.
It should be noted though that it's not just about numbers. Some of us still have trouble sleeping even when the numbers are well-dialed-in. Then you have to start looking at other things like sleep hygiene, diet, exercise, current medications and even meditation. But if you're rested in the morning and things keep getting better and you have more energy to do your thing, stay with the cpap therapy and no worries!

Concentrate on just using the CPAP all night every night for at least the first two weeks before you start worrying about results unless you're having really bad results or are going through hell. You do need time to adjust.

Re: Too much too soon?
Thanks for the feedback! AHI dropped to .4 last night with only a couple of hypopnea events! Will stay right where I am for a while and try to soothe my sister's fears. She is a very intelligent person, but her years of training have a certain amount of "don't question the professionals" mentality drilled into her. When I first told her that I was insisting on an autoset machine from my DME, she really could not let herself understand why I would want it. She had the same opinion of why I would want a daily readout, via software, of my sleep numbers. She said, "knowing that every day would drive me crazy with worry". She has been on her CPAP for almost 2 months now, and has had a few issues with it, and who knows; if she had dialed into her numbers on a daily basis, maybe her progress would have been better so far...but what do I know...still very new to this. This discussion group has helped me immensely in regards to taking control my own health and life during this transition. Thank you all!!!
