Insurance, copays, replacements......

Post by FarmGirl » Fri Feb 10, 2012 2:11 am

If this has been covered, I apologize. I couldn't find what I was looking for in 'search.'

Anyway.... I have Cigna (Carecentrix). I received a call from an 800 number identifing themselves as 'CPAP something.' I couldn't hear well as I was driving at the time. I got the gest that they (via an automated menu) want to send me replacements if I want them. I've only been on CPAP for 3 months. My Swift FX for Her is in nearly mint condition.

I guess my only question, really, has to do with insurance and copays. I'm assuming all I will need to pay is some sort of copay (my individual deductable was met long ago! but not yearly total out-of-pocket). Or am I going to be so lucky as to get it for 'free?' We've never dealt with insurance for replacement (hubby just buys his replacement items directly from CPAPsupplyUSA.com).

FREE,I doubt it. One thing for sure they will call back and back and back. Make sure what the rules are before saying yes to anything. Jim

Figure out the costs. Replacements through insurance are often much cheaper than online, depending on if you've met your deductible.

As your insurance will pay for replacements, accumulate at least one spare mask, hose, mask cushion, and water tank. You never know when you'll need a replacement. It also helps keep the risk of germs down if you clean one set of equipment and set it aside dry for a week or so while you use the other set.

Cushions for your mask tend to leak as they get old. Get a spare set, and then order replacements as you need them.

Do NOT let them put you on automatic ordering. Once you get enough spares, buy as you need them.

It may also be a good idea to get at least one full face mask in case you have a cold or something and can't breathe through your mask.

So, I call back this automated system which called me last night. Figured I could talk to a human since it was business hours.. WRONG!! There was no way to bust through the automation to a person. Going to have to figure out the humans I need to call to get replacement stuff.

Where did you get your CPAP machine? It is probably the same company that is calling you since they have your CPAP/insurance information. Check with your insurance to find out their replacement schedule.

Sometimes when you get that automated answering and want to talk to a person just press O on the phone. You may have to press it a couple of times but it works most of the time for me.
